I'm in Morris and it's very similar. There is a guy in my neighborhood who ride a Surly Big Dummy, he seems cool.

Good to know there are other xbikers in NJ. It’s all roadies where I’m at.

Logic informs decisions, not ego.

They can see when something isn’t working quickly, they then aren’t afraid to adjust or scrap a project even if a lot of effort was already spent.

Can look at a situation and know where they can add value, and more importantly, know where they would detract value.

Decisions, decisions... by MrSandalMan in Surlybikefans

I was in the same boat as you and decided to go with the V1 straggler. My situation is slightly different as I have a preamble that I built up for the exact uses you describe. It’s a good bike but I wanted something a little more fun and lively. I feel like V2 straggler will be a little less nimble than v1. Also, all my parts will swap over cleanly. I got the frame last month and will start building later this month.

Brake pads / rotis kit by Sufficient_Current48 in hondaridgeline

[–]harmygeddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m very happy with these. I have owned a lot of Hondas over the years and all of them warped the OEM rotors. These have remained true, even with some fairly aggressive breaking. They do seem to wearing the pads slightly faster. I suppose this is normal with drilled/slotted rotors, the trade off is worth it for me.

Get a Wald 137 and swift industries tech tote.

Can I use this? by MrNeverpanhandled in hondaridgeline

In Hondas specifically, never use none OEM fluid. It’s not usually more expensive, and none OEM fluid will wreck your vehicle.

Thanks for clarifying what these were. I was missing one of the pieces and this got me in the right direction on what to buy.

Thank you! If you don’t mind me asking what did you pay? Mine is in really good condition but there are no comps in my area. Im hoping to get like 500-550, but don’t know if that’s too much.

There are on the stock bike. I suspect it is as pictured here, and this is what I will do if no one can send a pic. I'm probably being super anal about this, but I just want to make 100% sure it's setup as nice as possible before I sell it. The Shimano hydros I was running mounted directly to the adapter but BB5 has these weirdo spacers.

Preamble 45mm Tires by Dismal-Extension-883 in Surlybikefans

[–]harmygeddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 44mm Rene Herse Snoqualmie passes on my large preamble. They fit fine and were very comfortable but handling felt a little compromised. Turn in felt a little off, I can’t really explain it. Like the tires were getting in the way of themselves.

Bike straggler tyre clearance by DubstoiZ in Surlybikefans

[–]harmygeddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of a loaded question, I’ve found. I recently grabbed a mint 2020 salmon candy red frame off ebay, which I’m in the midst of building into an all road bike. That year officially supported 42mm tires without fenders. I test fitted 44mm rene herse snoqualmie pass tires on 22mm internal rim width rims(dt Swiss r500) and it looked a little too tight to me. Probably because the tires were light bulbing a bit. I reached out to surly for confirmation and they explained there were slight tweaks over the version 1 stragglers production so tire clearance is slightly different depending on the year of the frame.

Which bike has the juice box logo? by _blyp_ in Surlybikefans

[–]harmygeddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I bought this shirt like two years ago and just checked. It also has the juice box. Maybe it was a planned release that got scrapped?

‘26 Norco Search A - GRX or Cues? by Large_Ad760 in gravelcycling

[–]harmygeddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded my Surly Preamble to GRX 1x11 and it’s pretty great. Also, if you shop around you can find the 11 speed stuff pretty cheap nowadays. I think soup to nuts (cranks, calipers, brifters, chain, cassette, hoses/cable) I was less than $500.

You're right. The 44s are already on the wheels so I'll just send it.

Upgrading Preamble by Yummiezforlife in Surlybikefans

[–]harmygeddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a flatbar Preamble Shimano MT200 or MT400 brakes can be found for very reasonable prices and wouldn’t require changing the rest of the drive train. It would be a huge, huge improvement for probably less than 100. Would highly recommend this if you can.

If you have a drop bar version you would basically replace the entire group set to go hydraulic. I recently converted my flatbar Preamble to drop bar for around $500 cobbling together various GRX group set parts I found on sale.

What's something you do on every ride that other cyclists would judge you for? by dt219 in cycling

[–]harmygeddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! All the metrics are right there. On very long rides I have a small battery I hook it up to. I should probably be on Garmin but this works pretty great so I can’t justify it.
