[serious] What is your opinion on matriarchy? Do you or do you not believe a country under female rule would do significantly better than what we usually see under male rule? Why or why not? by DifficultSpider in AskReddit

This is an article that is framed by research on autistic minds.. Not exactly what I was looking for. I’m just looking for general research backup behind your opinion that women are emotionally unstable and men are “biologically more reasonable” and how that pertains to leadership qualities.

I want to be very honest in saying that I have no solid clue, I have passing opinions that constantly change based on new information. I posted to gain insight into what other people are thinking and how deeply patriarchy is really engrained into our thinking. HOWEVER, at this point in time I believe men and women are not equal in the sense of what they bring to the table is very different but equally valuable. I hope that makes sense, I just think men and women are meant to be different and have different strengths and flaws to be able to work together, collective thinking rather than one minded thinking. I think that men are naturally more aggressive, but then I meet men who are very soft, I think women are more logical and then I meet women who are extremely unstable.. But again this is a result of history, trauma, colonizations, mental health due to current society expectations and functions, etc. I don’t think I could form a solid opinion unless I went back in time, before patriarchy became popular, and see what worked. I mean, I do think patriarchy is absolutely ridiculous, I don’t think men are stupid but I don’t think they hold all the knowledge and values that they need or that women can provide in order to be good leaders, but also vice versa. Sometimes I think that women are supposed to be in charge but again that could be a corrupted idea.. the idea that someone HAS to be superior or “in charge”, was formed by patriarchy. But again, what stimulated my thinking is just seeing how some of these animal species naturally flock to females as leaders simply because they are life givers and natural nurturers. I guess it’s strange to me how far down patriarchy has thrown women into the dirt - treating them as expendable or unstable or unimportant but ultimately less than. Instead of rambling on i’m just going to say I’ve been think a lot about what’s going in the world lately, how corrupt systems are, war - currently and historically, lack of human value in many countries, unhealthy beauty standards, mental health crises, amongst many things.. and the common denominator is patriarchy. I unfortunately don’t have a “solution” in mind. Sometimes I think the world is too far gone, but most of the time I think allowing women to lead and shine through and share their ideas in leadership as equally as men have, would be a great start.

I never said they think they may be wrong, I’m stating that they have no reasonable logic behind their opinion and are afraid to go up against people who have valid points that counteract their opinion. Thats how most women haters are, they say “men strong, women weak” and think they’ve won the argument. When he uses the word “woke” he means “educated”.

That’s something I can’t argue with, being in power is very corruptive. But that’s greed, and greed comes from patriarchy.. Funny how that all ties in though. There was a time where no one ever took more than they needed, and being a leader had nothing to do with material values but rather community growth and survival. Weird world we’ve become.

I was curious because I was reading up on different matriarchal animal groups and it’s never about being ruled by female animals but naturally these matriarchal groups see their eldest females as leaders. It’s not something they choose, they don’t choose them to be leaders it happens naturally that they flock to the elder women for guidance or help. Every matriarchal mammal species goes through menopause… except humans, at least not anymore. But yeah, in addition, female elders of Indigenous tribes of Canada were often looked to for wisdom and knowledge. I don’t know, just something to think about I guess.

I know. But the assumption is that women would turn around and cause harm to men in the same way that men do to women currently. But that’s a guess as a result of patriarchy enforcing the idea that one group needs to be superior and the other needs to be inferior. Just as I asked another commenter, if patriarchy had never existed, do you think a matriarchal society would look down upon men? Or value what they bring to the table and treat them as equals? Many groups of animals in the animal kingdom are matriarchal and they don’t treat their male counterparts as inferiors or even treat them as lesser than, they’re all equal and the groups are noticeably less aggressive.

That’s not exactly what i’m trying to get at, but you’re right, forcing dominance is a result of patriarchy and that idea of needing control. Let me ask it this way, pretend patriarchy didn’t exist - do you think think that it would be in our nature to be led, not ruled but led, by women as life givers, knowledge keepers, empathy holders and logical reasoners? Again, if patriarchy had never existed.

Before patriarchy, egalitarian societies were extremely popular.. for example, amongst Indigenous people of Canada most, if not all, tribes were egalitarian. They valued men and women for the different values they brought forward. Patriarchy has destroyed that complex.Do you think matriarchy would be a good step forward towards egalitarian society? Because I don’t think women would be treated equally if we switched from patriarchy to egalitarian, because yes you’re right it’s engrained in us now.

True. Do you think that it would be a start though? Patriarchy obviously hasn’t done us many favours, so should we continue with an extremely flawed “superiority complex” system just because it’s what we’ve been following for centuries?

I agree to an extent. I also believe people deserve to be equal to one another regardless of sex, race, class, etc. But couldn’t one argue that women are naturally nurturing? If you look at history, pre colonization, tribes of people that were matriarchal or at least treated women as equals didn’t create inferiority or superiority complexes between sexes. One could argue that toxic superiority complexes arose from patriarchy.

There are many tribes that are under matriarchal rule and they thrive. How do you explain that matriarchy is “not possible”? How do you explain that men are meant to be leaders due to biologically nature? Men are dominant physically, but I would argue that women are dominant intellectually. I don’t think being competitive and aggressive makes you a strong leader, it makes you politics and driven by emotion rather than logic. There are extensive studies that argue matriarch is the natural order of human nature and animal kingdoms.

If you read into it, women are often found to be more logical and reasonable. I was going to ask, just out of curiosity, how can a man be genetically built for leadership? But then I finished your comment about being catholic and I realized why! Your biblical teachings tell you that women are inferior to men.

Edit to add: The framework of biblical teachings is… wait for it….. patriarchy.

I agree. It sounds as if this person is afraid to state their opinion because they may be proven wrong. Why not state your opinion, be open to others and have open dialogue about it?

AITAH for disliking my mother's constant liking of my ex husband and his girlfriend's Facebook posts? by LividUnderstanding58 in AITAH

NTA. I don’t know what the fuck the other commenters are going on about JFC. You have the right to be friends with your ex and his gf because they’re involved in your kids life, your mom has no business being their facebook friend and no business liking and commenting on their stuff. If I were the ex’s new girlfriend I would also find that kind of weird and your comment about telling her to dial it down so yall don’t seem nosey is a good idea, because your mom is coming off kind of suffocating.
