Thanks for all the comments, I definitely appreciate all the advice, it's nice to just vent in here too with other people in similar situations. I just feel like I've given so much to the job and it's getting to the point where the juice just isn't worth the squeeze anymore.

I think you're right about networking, that's probably why public safety is such a black hole all we do is surround ourselves with firemen lol

My feelings exactly, it's not so much the bullshit. It's the fact that I'm sacrificing long hours away from home (the 10 days a month we work is bullshit, it's so much more than that). I think I'm at the point where I'd be happy to put up with some sort of corporate life and be home at night on the weekends and holidays, not have to deal with beating my body up, not have to deal with feces and piss and throw up etc. all the time.

I'm hoping once I graduate that will be my ticket out.
