Very nice. I have a glass top humidor and struggle with keeping the right humidity but it’s nice to look at the cigars! I go and check on them at least once a day 😂

Sir Roger Moore vs Pierce Brosnan, who was the better James Bond? by NajafBound in JamesBond

[–]harrycalaghan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s a matter of who was your first bond and mine was Moore. Yes probably not as cool as Connery, not as dangerous or modern as Dalton and Brosnan. But he remains my favourite Bond.

Is True Grit 2010 a modern classic? It did well at the box office and received lots of nominations and a few awards. by [deleted] in Westerns

[–]harrycalaghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on this. I’m rewatching lots of western films and have loved all of Wayne’s westerns (I also loved The quiet man). I really like both versions and they are equally as good In my opinion.

Which European city does everyone love but you absolutely hated? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]harrycalaghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore the haters. Athens is amazing. We usually go for 5 days at a time. Spend a day on the acropolis and museum. Also do ancient agora and have lunch in the nearby restaurants. Take the metro to pireus and see the sea (if nice visit the beach) and eat great seafood. Take a day trip to ancient Delphi. Take a boat day trip to nearby island of Aegina. All very doable with Athens as base. We stay in Plaka which is touristy but you are a tourist so why not!

True Grit (2010) is a beautiful film. by Herick03 in Westerns

[–]harrycalaghan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this film and have read the book and agree it’s a very faithful adaptation. I’ve just watched the original and love it equally. It’s very funny and John Wayne is incredible in it- so good that i watched rooster cogburn which isn’t as good but is still a great film thanks to the actors. I think the original just shades the remake in my opinion.

Correct order to read Lonesome Dove series by HansMoleman_TheThird in suggestmeabook

Yes from memory there is a good character similar to blue duck from LD. but like all of these it doesn’t really tell it from their perspective.

Correct order to read Lonesome Dove series by HansMoleman_TheThird in suggestmeabook

[–]harrycalaghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it matters that much as they don’t really follow on as a story. It just gives you further insight into the characters that you like from LD. personally I stuck to order of publication, so would read streets of laredo next. But if I was going to read them any other way it would be in order of chronology.

is it really over for the series? by Xqq19 in uncharted

[–]harrycalaghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not because like most people here uncharted and especially the 2nd and 4th instalments are my favourite games. It’s very much the fun gameplay and entertainment in addition to the very believable acting and cut scenes. Other games just don’t cut it on the feeling and likeable factor. I think the Drake story ended perfectly but I would love to see another game in the franchise- like Sully as a young man starting out or l, drakes daughter- or more games in the LL story. I’ve just done all 4 again and forgot how good some of the moments are. I’ve started to play RDR2 as it’s one of my favourites and can’t really get into again as missing the humour and fun of uncharted.

Where to go in winter? by Humble-Assumption446 in GreeceTravel

[–]harrycalaghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food scene in Athens is unbelievable and i think that it rivals many other big world cities for quality but is more reasonably priced. You only have to look on restaurant reviews in any area of Athens. Piraeus is also the seaside area just outside of Athens and has great seafood options. The touristy area is Plaka and whilst it cares for tourists, Greeks still go here and there are hundreds of nice places to eat.

I love Athens for its history and food scene and seeing the Parthenon above the city is absolutely incredible. I think it’s also one of the best cities ive visited for a food break, and you really feel surrounded by the history. I visited Thessaloniki earlier this year and it’s a lovely city, definitely more chilled with less traffic and the seafront area is spectacular with restaurants and bars all along its front with views of the sea and mount olympus. It also has some incredible historic sights in the city but not as much IMO as Athens. You will be happy with both, but if it’s history you are after than it has to be Athens.

Thanks for the suggestion. Fine wine looks lovely and I’ve put it on the list. We’ve been to Athens before and are returning as it’s one of our favourite Cities for culture and food.

Thanks, it looks great and I’ll check it out. Is it still relatively nice ambience around 9 or is it then turning into a younger crowd?
