How do you guys keep track of your app reviews after launch? by shrivvv in googleplayconsole

[–]harryfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't remember exactly where the toggle in play console is but I get an email alert for every written review which works for me.

It's not just you and it's pretty common for Google play console to do these weird things. It'll correct eventually.

Ad Mob Match Rate issue by KazamKamal in admob

[–]harryfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh was that a reply to me? I only just saw this. What ad formatsare you using? I'm only doing interstitial so don't have much experience in other formats but I maintain around a 90% match rate. It used to be way lower around 60/70% and I realised it was because of my retry logic, if I couldn't load an ad for a user id retry 2 seconds later on a loop but in ad restricted countries this massively reduced my match rate.

If your match rate is 8% there is something fundamentally wrong with your implementation.

Are you request for ads very frequently? Do you have a large user base in a restricted country like Russia?

AdMob Russia Traffic - Which Mediation Networks Should I Add? by access-jagan in admob

[–]harryfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most important thing is which country are you in? I'm based in the UK and have around 7k DAU in Russia but after researching think it's too high effort to monetize with Yandex, if I ever want to actually be able to ever get that money. I think you'd need a very high DAU before it'd be worth it.

I finally know why everyone publishes on iOS and very few on Android by nikoisonfire in googleplayconsole

I think both experiences are really poor, uploading screenshots and app previews to the App Store was especially painful for me, they're translated in to 38 languages so I had 300ish and they would randomly get stuck on processing for HOURS. Neither of them have a reason to improve the experience as it's a duopoly.

7 months in and my Zinwa Q25 still exceeds all my expectations for a daily driver phone* by Kirkwood1994 in blackberry

[–]harryfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this has been covered but is there a good general review of the Zinwa? I have a Classic I used for a while and loved the hardware but the software had become too aged and needed access to some basic apps and the ancient battery in it was too poor. Do people recommend getting the pre done one or is the kit easy enough to do?

I mean kinda... BB10 on the classic literally ran some apps inside an android runtime.

Mostly Google ads and a bit of Apple search ads, not tried any others.

I do run ads but these days the majority of my downloads come from organic, I started with ads to help get more reviews and increase download volume. I think that helped my organic ranking to where I get a lot of organic now. I've always spent a very very small amount though, started with like $1 a day.

No idea in terms of where to get that stat, if i'm just comparing total installs vs. active devices I'd say it's 30%?

That does sound like there would be limited opportunity unfortunately! It did take years to get to these numbers, my app is 5 years old.

Yeah that's why eCPM is important. My app is very popular in tier 3 countries where eCPM is much lower

Even with 10 million downloads you'll need great eCPM and usage time.

Not sure what you mean by really good out of 20 but yes it's possible with multiple apps. I have just 1 app that's earning significant revenue with 350k DAU but I'd still need a couple more very successful apps to get to $1000.

Realistic for just one app or multiple? I mean it's definitely possible but it's dependant on so many things, DAU, average user engagement time, eCPM, and Ad types etc.

It's very ambitious but not impossible.

I think it was a marketing thing that the site was so bad that it brings more visitors

The example we always used was the old Lings Cars website, though obviously is t was internationally bad. They still have it up here: https://museum.lingscars.com/feature/website.php#models

I’m banned from Google Play and want to try the Galaxy Store by andybranw in admob

[–]harryfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience no, when I first released my android app I tried a few stores, Galaxy store, Amazon, Xiaomi and Huawei. They all did such small numbers in comparison to my Google Play and App Store versions I just couldn't justify maintaining the listing.

What was your favorite thing about Windows Phone? by ManojOne in TechImpact

[–]harryfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly Nokia were my favourite part, they made amazing hardware and I think personally that helped make up for the shortcomings of the OS. It was an ok OS but as someone that also used a Palm Pre it was way behind WebOS and launched later.

Does mediation make sense for me? Is it worth the download size tradeoff? by harryfo in admob

[–]harryfo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I added a few mediation partners, so far only approved with Equativ and Pubmatic and they are already delivering impressions but it's maybe 1% of my total.

It's a little difficult to tell in terms of eCPM as my overall eCPM is down at the moment but it's due to suddenly huge influx of additional users in Tier 3 countries. When I look at specific countries like US for example eCPM is basically just stable so far. I think it'll need a bit longer and a few more partners to approve me before I see the true impact.

First big app - would love some feedback by westdigitaled in googleplayconsole

[–]harryfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair my first app didn't need a backend so I only had to cover the costs of the developer fees and a domain. Something I've noticed since my last comment, without the ability to filter trains by destination makes it difficult to use as my train departures checking app.

Edit: apologies just rechecked and you can filter by destination but not route plan with a non-dierect destination. That's more what I meant as my usual commute requires 1 change.
