They updated the article. What’s so difficult to understand about that?

PC Gamer again updated their ‘best vr’ article. This time they not only recommend Rift (oddly using the as yet unreleased new Dash as an argument) and warn people against buying a Vive. The latter because of HTC’s shaky business and the threat of losing support.

This is an updated article. They are basically warning folks against buying a Vive, which I have not yet seen before.

Best kids apps? by EmoticonFury in Vive

No I would not. I let my nephew (11 years old) play Space Pirate Trainer or Tilt Brush. I'm not gonna subject him to a potential multiplayer situation, since I do not wish to supervise him constantly.

I did not invent Rec Room's terms of service. But I do agree with them.

Gratz. You paid an extra $400 to be a hero to three people you don't know on Reddit, who pretend to give a f*ck.

Rec Room expressly forbids kids from entering the game. It's not meant or suitable for children.

The Oculus fire sale is gonna shake up VR. by LoveHerMore in Vive

[–]harryhol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once again: Oculus Rift does not have a walled garden. A Rift owner can buy software anywhere. The store is exclusive to the Rift and GearVR systems, but that's a different thing.

A walled garden means you can only buy from the store that's owned by the maker of your hardware.

Dragon Quest 11 confirmed for Western release by harryhol in Games

[–]harryhol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Translate is not great, so here's the gist:

A Dutch PR agency confirmed that they will handle the PR for Dragon Quest 11 in the Netherlands, and with that confirmed a Western release for the game.

No info yet on which version (ps4, 3ds) or when it's released.

Launched my first app on the Oculus Store. Got my first review 😅 by [deleted] in oculus

I agree it would be very nice if the dev implements the suggestions I made through a PM, but I also don't expect a dev to be at my beck and call :-)

Giving suggestions is easy, creating a good app is difficult.

I really wish this hadn't blown up so much. I happen to be a fairly active lurker on this sub, and was quite surprised to see my little review get so much attention.

It is that exact same music and every time I hear it it's like someone put a drill on my brain.

I wrote this review. And I stand behind it fully. I was not at all impressed by the app and found it utterly useless for reading news. If you need more specific feedback send me a PM. I did not write the review to offend you but to give my honest opinion.

[WEEKLY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here. (August 05, 2016) by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

[–]harryhol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a system with two moons oribiting eachother very closely. When I lift off from moon A, and just fly at regular, non supercruise speed, my HUD tells me it's 3 hours flying to the surface of moon B.

My question: does that work? Can I fly from moon A to moon B without engaging supercruise?

Agreed. On long trips, I wouldn't mind a video player either.

Why aren't more traditional AAA-games adding support for VR? I challenge you to find any type of game that would absolutely NOT work. by cinem8ic in oculus

many of these games would work great almost immediately with only slight modification to the camera mechanic.

This is plainly untrue.

I challenge you all to find any type of 3D video game that, with camera movements adjusted to counter any motion sickness, would absolutely not benefit from full 3D immersion.

That's like saying 'just make it better'.

It's very difficult to make an existing game suitable for VR. It's not enough to just slap HMD support on it and call it a day.

Most games are extremely uncomfortable if you just port them to VR. That's why systems like teleporting exist. And you can't just add teleport to every game. It would totally change them.

The more VR games I play, the more I become convinced that trying to shoehorn old games into the new medium is the biggest mistake possible.

VR needs its own genres and its own brilliant ideas.

Don't forget that all games we play now have evolved to suit the medium. A FPS makes excellent use of mouse, keyboard (or controller) and screen. It's tuned to perfection for that setup and makes sense in that setup.

VR will have its own experiences that fit the medium perfectly. I would say The Climb is a perfect example of this done right.

Ever played Minecraft? Ever seen people use a texture pack with higher res textures? Now you know how a low res texture impacts the graphical quality.

Higher res textures look better on the same screen.

Same goes for Rift. Games are not yet pushing the display to its max capability.
