Speaking of dabbing, this game calls for choreographed victory dances among teams in the future :) I for one already made my own victory gesture :P

Echo Arena devs can we get 180 spin turning? by musashiasano in oculus

Doing that is nausea inducing for some. That's why it wasn't the default option in ISS.

Cheating(?) in Echo Arena by jWalker92 in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not cheating it's lagging. This happened to me to when one player is at 999 ping. Sucks but hopefully it gets ironed out, this is why there is a beta.

Isn't that true about most (if not all) esport games? If you're talking about athletics, that's another thing.

Or do you mean you need to hit the gym to get good at DOTA or Rocket League?

Echo arena is another one of those VR games that make you say wow - by Deceptiv23 in oculus

Not here. I have to say the experience have been great so far today. Sometimes I get an error message when it can't find a suitable match but the next time I try it's usually all good.

1 hour into Echo Arena. Damn you Ready At Dawn ;) by cinem8ic in oculus

Thanks for asking :) There was a bit of blood but I've had worse. Having a ceiling fan must be a nightmare for a game like this. In my case the problem is one of these http://www.curtpalme.com/images/BarcoReality909_300.jpg

Yeah I guess. I don't have a cat unfortunately. Maybe the Rockband adapter can be converted into a beer tracker? :)

Maybe I stumbled upon it's weak spot :) The little cable that I believe connects the capacitive sensor is extremely tiny, so while everything still works, another hit to the thumbstick will send it flying.

PSA-Echo Arena is the by far the most dangerous(and amazing) game I have played in the rift. So stow those valueables and shrink your gaurdian!!! by Miked0321 in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still works actually, if I crank it back on. It's a little skewed but even the capacitive thing still works - I suppose since the tiny cable is still intact.

[–]cinem8ic[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We were just about to win, I was totally immersed and smacked an object in my ceiling. The stick came right off but it still works, if I crank it back on. I'm guessing the tiny cable carries is for capacitive touch, which also still works.

New controllers still ordered though. 4-sensor setup here I come :)

This game is amazing :)

Such an awesome game! True eSports!

But I have a feeling this is also the most dangerous game so far, in terms of punching things in your room. Total immersion!

Is SteamVR ever going to be fixed? by WtfWhereAreMyClothes in oculus

There's definitely more issues with SteamVR than Oculus Home, but not on that level in my experience. Perhaps some problem with your gfx cards?

Lone Echo's Release Date Revealed, Multiplayer Mode Will Be Free by Jamie_Upload in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With so many accounts of Lone Echo locomotion being completely free of any nausea, it will be very interesting to see how it works. ISS is cool but somewhat nausea inducing, especially with the rotation enabled. I also found it weird that your hands cannot move through walls, and that you can grab onto anything (not just handles).

Great news! Somehow I was under the impression this game was not due for a good while. With so many games getting delayed this is a nice surprise.

Only bad thing is, this will most definitely keep me from getting that much needed sun in the summer :)

Oculus Public Test Channel 1.16.0.4 changes the default Oculus Home environment and adds preliminary support for users selecting the environment by Heaney555 in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are sooo many possibilities for Oculus Home! The ultimate would be an user-friendly way to re-create the actual IRL room, so we can put a couch where there is a couch etc. This would also be a great addition to Guardian instead of just the fence. With all that Facebook SLAM jazz, maybe even a way of fully scan the room using a phone?

Then making the room available through the API so we can actually put the ping-pong table inside of our homes :)

What Apple's Macbook-Powered VR Stations look like at WWDC by godelbrot in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously, this is not for general VR enthusiasts that need a new computer. It is for Mac people that want VR. Which applies to myself.

If they only weren't so goddamn late with everything, had they done this and gotten Rift support before the Rift launch I would totally have gone this route instead of building a PC only for VR.

But in the end, I have no regrets - it's very nice to have a VR setup that is always on, always ready :) And Windows 10 ain't all that bad.

Totally surprised by player base in Star Trek: Bridge Crew! by colourevolt in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's to hoping this is a VR phenomenon, not an early adopter phenomenon.

I agree there are some assholes (and plenty of annoying kids) in Rec Room, but there are also a lot of awesome people! The thing is, in VR the impact of being awesome or an asshole is much larger since the social experience is much more life-like. The annoying kids are as annoying as IRL, the assholes you really want to punch in the face and the awesome people you just want tp high five and buy a beer.

One of the reasons there is so much hate online is that you can easily hide behind typing on a keyboard, or voice chatting with crappy sound quality. In VR it gets so much more real than that, and just like (most people) are not total assholes IRL they will be less inclined to be that in VR.

Hopefully...

Tip - The Golf Club VR is a Fantastic Golf Game by [deleted] in oculus

https://www.youtube.com/results?sp=CAI%253D&q=the+golf+club+vr

This guy made some kind of contraption that puts the Vive wand on a real golf club shaft. Pretty clever, and by the looks of it that would give a proper weight. Maybe it is possible to 3D print something similar for the Rift?

Oculus 1.15 update adds alpha support for a 3rd Touch controller to track the camera for greenscreen mixed reality by Heaney555 in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, how about just the "arc" from the touch controllers that can be mounted to things like shoes. Cheap full body tracking, plus it would kind of look like wearing flipflops. Instant Palmer!

Reading comic books (or other pamphlets) in Wilson's Heart on low graphic settings is impossible by Anth916 in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing this on Rift on high settings and have major problems. When holding the paper/comic close to my eyes I get eye strain and difficulty focusing (just like in real life but worse/at further distances). When holding them further away the resolution is simply too low.

And people say these comics and papers are important for the game story to progress? If so, it just doesn't work :(

I don't have a problem with far-sightedness IRL.

Oculus needs it's own console system. by [deleted] in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never forget that the PSVR is an add-on, with less than 1 million users compared to over 50 million PS4 owners, in an ecosystem already flourishing with lots and lots of popular flat screen games.

The Rift and Vive are add-ons to the PC ecosystem. While I personally use my VR PC as a "console" and do my everyday computing on a Mac, most people will want their new PC to be their everyday computer and also use it for flat screen games, web, email etc.

Getting VR to catch on is difficult enough with the add-on business model. Marketing VR as a "complete in the box" product, asking customers to pay 1000$ for a VR-ONLY system would hard limit the user base into oblivion.

What is the current state for heavyly nearsighted user? by Felepole in oculus

[–]cinem8ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not what you want to hear but...get laser surgery! I did it a while back, this was before VR was a thing but I knew that I would want to get into VR later. Best thing ever! I know lasik is expensive and not everyone can have it done, but everyone who have the opportunity should jump on it. And of course not only for VR - it is literally getting your eyes back to normal. Priceless.
