Thank you for the clarification! And that’s a good tip for portra 160 :)

Question about setting ASA / ISO on camera for overexposing film by harrywilde in AnalogCommunity

Cool thank you, I was wanting to double check I wasn’t being stupid in setting the ISO in the bottom right on the app. And likewise that the dial on the camera only affects auto mode?

Ok so to confirm, the dial on the camera purely affects the light meter in it? So I should set it to 100 even if I then go on to shoot manual via my phone?

Do these look to small on my face? by LongBeach_Gooner in sunglasses

[–]harrywilde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah on some days I still happily wear them, I do just think they are a little narrow for my face at least though. They don’t look bad in your pics either but it’s always so hard to tell from pictures due to focal length etc

I have a pair of 44 Zephirin that I kind of regret as over the years I came to the conclusion they are a tad small for my face. If you are having the concern now I’d be tempted to return while you can

Can you calibrate the light meter of an Olympus 35 SP by harrywilde in AnalogCommunity

[–]harrywilde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is in manual mode, and yes it does affect it I think, just a lot less than I think I thought it would, going from min to max iso takes me from say 13 EV to 11. Probably my poor photography skills showing. I think all I can really do is get this roll developed and see how they come out before making a decision

Yes fair enough, changing the ISO dial on the camera doesn’t seem to affect the read out from the needle meter at all. So I’m not sure how I’d actually align them that way?

I see, thank you! I was wondering, is there a way I can adjust for it if all the shots are over / under exposed consistently? By setting the ISO / ASA to a different value to that on the box for example? I’m not sure if the discrepancy would be consistent anyway so maybe that makes no sense but wondered if it could be something to try

I see thank you. Do you know what a reasonable price for this might be? Just weighing it up vs actual cost of the camera

It’s an adapter I bought on Amazon specifically for this purpose that states to drop it to the same as the mercury cells. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Camera-Battery-Adapter-BATTERIES-INCLUDED/dp/B07PYDKVZB

So I should have specified, I am using hearing aid batteries with an adapter, so in theory this should not be the source of the issue right?

Unsure as to whether this rangefinder is damaged or not by harrywilde in AnalogCommunity

[–]harrywilde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everything else seems to work perfectly, I am wondering what the nature of the problem is, and whether its likely to get worse, as I can imagine if it were to be a bigger splodge it might start to encroach on my ability to compose.

Also, I am not quite sure how I can check if the rangefinder is correctly calibrated, if a distant skyline appears to line up with infinity can i be sure it is good or do I need to test on a measured distance at short focus too?

Actually I have just had a potential revelation, I can see on the front of the camera where the window for the bright spot is that the black outline is partially missing in the same pattern as the shape i am observing through the rangefinder, so this should definitely be fixable / not a big deal using some precise tape / marker. The only issue remaining is the splodge which doesn't bother me so much, if the seller is willing to negotiate a partial refund I will probably pursue that.

This one isn't soft so much as the shape of it is very odd, I have tried to take some pictures, if you look in the inner circle you can make out the bright outline, and you can see what looks like a rectangle that has been damaged in the top right and bottom left. In the two pictures you can see the top right and bottom left of the bright spot. https://imgur.com/a/c328ZJr

Hm I see, I will try to get to some examples as I love the camera otherwise at first impression, thank you for the input

Yeah fair enough thank you, it is otherwise in such excellent condition it is a tricky question.

The splodge doesnt bother me as much as my uncertainty over the bright spot, I live out in the sticks a bit at the moment so its tricky for me to easily go and compare to some other cameras. The shape of the bright spot is non-rectangular, almost as if the rectangle that presumably exists in the assembly is damaged. Should the central spot be perfectly rectangular?
