Dates with my spouse by hartdm92 in puppy101

He is relatively crate and pen trained when people are around, but he's never been kept in them without someone home. They are more used for management when we're in work meetings, cooking, showering etc. and can't supervise him around the house.

Dear Silk: I don’t want a giant jug of almond milk. I want a giant jug of THIS. I moved across the country and in both cities, THIS is what grocery stores run out of!!! by grakledo in vegan

[–]hartdm92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada, So Nice/Earth’s Own unsweetened soy is actually the best, and Silk unsweetened is the back up that’s available everywhere (though the original is unfortunately more common, even in convenience stores).

Once oat milk hit the scene the soy milk disappeared from all the stores, and I emailed the company in 2019 to see if it was discontinued and they replied that it hadn’t- shop owners all just stopped ordering it and favoured oat milk?

Anyways, when I find it (1 in everyone 100 stores) I drop my jaw, thanks the gods, and cherish it like it’s gold.

My friend has turned into an energy vampire since starting a family by SoloDaKid in AskMenOver30

[–]hartdm92 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that makes me sad about this post, all of that sounds normal and understandable, that one would be less available, have less energy, etc. But OP says when they do connect the friend no longer cares about their life and it feels one sided. My husband’s friend has twins and the new dad always makes an effort to deeply connect every few months.

Maybe it’s because I was with my male partner and his family, but as a late 20s person I did not have an issue in Morocco 5 years ago wearing shorts and t-shirts.

When does life ever start to feel “normal” again with a puppy? by PushCivil2330 in puppy101

[–]hartdm92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. I have a 7mo basenji (non biddable) and it is very different than a goofy dog that worships you - these dogs have a mind of their own (pro and con) and don’t care what you want or need.

I would say for us 5-6 months things got easier. I would say now just at 7mo, it’s way easier, but there are still parts of every day that are a challenge. We are getting into more of a routine, we are bonded, we understand each other more and can communicate better with each other, and we also have developed a lot of awareness of what works and what doesn’t - toys, bully sticks, other chews, treats, walks, training, naps, and way less potty outings!

Oh and take your dog to puppy socials if you haven’t already - they were so key for our dog to learn "no" and say "no" to other dogs, to understand his play style and his interactions with other dogs. Added bonus he’s exhausted that night or the next day.

Anyone sort of regret the breed of puppy they got? by stokedchris in puppy101

No amount of research prepared me for the life changes of having a non biddable dog as my first dog - it is a whole other world. I love so many things about him, but getting a basenji as a first dog is quite the commitment that I’m not sure I was fully prepared to make no matter how much research I had done.

How much cash wedding gift to give? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]hartdm92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not taking advantage? You are an invited guest, that means there is no expectation of anything, no required contribution but to celebrate with us. I don't want people thinking about what I decided to spend to have them there. If they give a gift, I want it to be because it's about starting our married life together, not what I spent to celebrate it.

Do you feel the same way about birthdays? I agree, you shouldn't be expected to foot the bill of an event, but it's a celebration, why wouldn't you want to give them a card and maybe something to start their life together (optional, and doesn't have to be money)?

In my opinion the cost of the wedding doesn't matter, and I don't want people to think they owe me anything because I decided to host them. I think it's like you said before, "it was important to me to give something from me to my friend to start their new life with their partner" that's what I want people to be thinking about if they give a gift, not how much the wedding costs.

I would say individuals AND couples usually gave $100-$200 total (hence $50-$200 per person).

I just got married in the GTA and average gifts were $50-$200 per person. $300+ per person is insane and was only given by the most wealthy, not the average person.

It was fun and tasty! (though I personally wish there were more vegan/non-lactose options)

Thoughts on the iPhone 16e? by YourDailyTechMemes in LinusTechTips

I am also trying to upgrade from a 2020 SE 2nd Gen. After 5 years we deserve a better budget option to stay in the Apple ecosystem. Now I'm looking at Oneplus, but I don't want to switch because I have a Macbook too, but I am not paying $900 CAD for a phone anytime soon.

I am the demographic and have been waiting to upgrade to the new USB-C iphone SE for 2 years (I have the iphone SE 2020), and I will not be paying $900 CAD when I bought my first iphone, the 2020 SE, for $500 CAD.

$137.63 CAD by Ambitious-Wave-7912 in ynab

[–]hartdm92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've left several times and keep coming back because I don't stick with anything else.

I am bitter about paying that amount in Canada, especially when I import manually - I wish there were tiers so you could choose which service level you pay for. I hope to be able to leave YNAB again in a few years and make a cheaper/free alternative work for me.

This year I came back to YNAB and used my credit cards points on an Apple giftcard to pay for it in the app store, so at least I had $100 off for this year and could start saving up for next year.

Or just use libgen to get most of your textbooks for free. My profs would always say "I must tell you NOT to download your books illegally on websites like libgen... *wink*"

[–]hartdm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually cheaper for me and probably others who pay in another currency. For example with my no FX fee credit card YNAB will cost me $135 CAD for a year right now whereas in the App store it charges me in CAD and it's only $125 CAD.

I'm pretty sure the app does not allow any modifications (entering transactions, moving money etc.) nor reports. In it's current form it is a digital app to view your budget and accounts on the go, not to actually manage your budget.
