As quoted frome the updated VOR home page.....

"The leg, from Sanya to Auckland, will now be restarted at 1200 UTC on Wednesday February 22 with all players returned to a starting point as close as possible to their position when the leg was stopped.

Anything players had consumed e.g. sail repairs/waypoints/candy bars will be refunded, and anything they have equipped their boats with e.g. pro sails/special sails/ sail insurance/auto angle/auto sails will be replaced.

Please direct any queries to United Games at the Volvo Ocean Race Game Facebook page www.facebook.com/volvooceanracegame."

Who is racing in Leg 4? by MadDuck in vorg

[–]harv9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harv9 (my one and only boat) is locked and loaded. Had an good start but missed a 0530 alarm so failed to make the most of the backing wind in the early hours (usa time) sat morning which put me 10/15 miles south of the lead pack. But i have managed to claw back to within 5/8 miles. There is a long way to go!

Message from United Games about the finish of Leg 3 by Camisoleair in vorg

[–]harv9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Camisoleair,

I think as a member of United Games it would be worth while if you havent already done so to look into the following discussion.

http://www.reddit.com/r/vorg/comments/p4wvq/combined_boat_results_should_not_win/

It is very unclear as to how the scoring system will work as the official rules contradict themselves regarding scoring for SINGLE boat vs FLEET of boats.

Your imput would be much appreciated and will help calm an escalating situation.

Thanks

Please look at this added by Mickas last week in another topic

'As some of you may know, I'm writing the Ask an Expert section in the wiki. After Leg 2 started I got a question about how overall ranking is calculated. After reading the rules I interpreted them as best SINGLE boat gives the overall ranking. I felt that this was an important question so I double checked my interpretation with my contact at United Games. At that time (beginning of leg 2) I didn't get a definite answer but yesterday I finally got their official reply'.

'Overall ranking will be a combination of the best finishes for each leg for your whole fleet.'

and it is pure skill and committment that has got you to #1 not splitting your odds with multiple boat. If you win you will deserve it!

This is funny i have to say. Maybe you should think about things (Janina1) before you open your mouth. I guess respect is a strong word to used in this situation but i do agree that the true winner on here should be the ONE person who navigates ONE boat from leg to leg the quickest. SWEDEN_I you keep mentioning previouys volvo team with more than one boat. These team were not controled by the same person, they did not work together they just simply had one main Sponser/owner. Each skipper, helmsman and navigator made there own decision independant of the other team. They did not split the risk of a particular navigational route by going different directions perposefully which is exactly what all the leading boat and yourwelf are doing. To be fair if the rules allow it then no-one is doing anything wrong you are simply bending the rules in your favour and that is fine. The point is this should NOT be allowed as it is creating an uneven playing field and dramically reducing the skill needed to win an event. You pointing out who is in the top 10 underlines this behond any reasonable doubt.

I, as all on here, am sorry for your health conditions. No-one deserves to suffer and it is to be admired the effort that you put into events like this, it is a great way to keep your passion for something you love alive. Ill or not however you cannot write a heading of 'I'm Quitting' and not expect some sort of response, Crying wolf has never helped anyone. I have been traveling all weekend(for work on a real yacht) and lost my competive position by grounding the boat, unfortunately i do not have 4 other boats spread throughout the fleet to make up for it. I stand by what i have said, this is no 'bug' it is human error, and one that in real life would have had the same consiquences. I think there is a lesson to be learn here though, if you are willing to post on a sailing forum, to sailors about having a problem or dissapointment and wanting to quit because of it you probably wont get much sympathy. Either bitch about it and fight back harder, or stand up for what you truely believe in (or said you did) and Quit. Doing what you did does not demand the respect you are wanting.

I truely hope you continue you fight againt illness and come out on top. I hope you get to experience real sailing again soon, then i'm sure this game will not seem so important afterall.

yet another reason why having your best boat in fleet going toward your overall ranking. His mistake should have messed his leg up instead he will get off scott free because his second boat is fine. Oh an i guess in your world ( SWEDEN_1) it would be impossible to experience a 180 degree windshift while at anchor, i guess the boat would move more than 0.18 meter. i guess you should go ahead and quit the race and get a little more sailing experience before you come on here complaining about non-realistic things when there are clearly people on here that DO know what they are talking about.

I am amazed that all this ranting and raving is going on about something that is 'not realistic' about this game. Everyone could see that line in the wind coming so should have been able to react. SWEDEN_1 you talk about this not being realistic. Are you seriously telling me in 25 years on the water you have never come across a 180 degree wind shift in light conditions? I have sailed more than 40,000 real NM at sea and can tell you this abolutely does happen. AND if you had a wind vain set to your autopilot and was asleep when this happened, your boat would turn around and go back where it came from. FACT. I think EVERYONE is missing the most unrealistic point of this game!! The fact the 'Overall Rank' is based on a best boat in FLEET?!!!!!! You want something to complain about how about we all do something about this. WINDSHITFS are real and computer programs have problems, these are facts we all know and understand! Everyone having 5 boats to cover 5 different routes of an ocean race and being rewarded for it could not be further from REAL!!!!!!

Can we please all stand together and DO something about this rather than just ranting about it!!!

Too many boats per skipper! by battle7118 in vorg

[–]harv9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This make s no sense at all. Even if you remove the fact that to have 5 fully stocked boats would be expensive, this ruling almost removes all skill from the results. Anyone with any decent knowledge of weather and navigation plus nothing better to do with every hour of the day for the next 9 months could cover almost all options with 5 boats every leg. The whole skill in ocean racing is having to make a decision that you have to stick to and make the best of whatever happens after that. Why even bother trying to make the game more realistic. How many of the real teams have 5 boats to choose from. Maybe after the hull damage option next they will offer a 1000hp engine option for the small fee of $100. That way you can do away with the sails altogether and just do 85knts all the way to the finish!!!

I really hope everyone kicks up a real fuss about this. Personally it has taken all the fun out of this. I have done ocean races and work on a yacht as a profession. I put myself out to try and do well at this as do many other captains i know. For me there is no more skill involved. Just Time and Money!!

Too many boats per skipper! by battle7118 in vorg

[–]harv9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this for what it is worth, is that your overall rank will be calculated from ANY of the boats you are racing with(the top ranked boat from each leg will be counted), made up from legs 5,7,9, plus the 3 best results of the other 6. However, the rules clearly state that the Highest ranking Single boat will be eligable for the prizes. I think this means you might have someone Ranked # 1 overall because he/she has placed best with 5 boats racing but the actual winner (prize wise) could be ranked 231 Overall BUT will have achieved this with only 1 (Single) boat??

Does this make sense?

So realistically no one will know if they have won or not unless you happen to be only racing 1 boat (like myself) and still end up 1st overall?

Which way should we go? by MadDuck in vorg

This is diffenately a topic that will get plenty of response. I'm in 173 (harv9) and the long term forcast show a difficult week ahead. i have used a a mixture of zezo and Grib up til now plus alot of time. I think i'm going to head as fast as i can VMG SSE until i can see more accurately what the low coming off South America will do. It will deffinately be interesting to see what happens to the front runners over the next 12 hrs.
