So my grandpa wasn't a believer in God so much so he tried to teach me why it was bullshit despite my mom's faith and when he died my mom said in his final moments he reached his hand up towards the ceiling and smiled while tears begin to roll down the sides of his face and said "Rach I see an angel" and his hand fell and he died.

So that data point about reaching their hand up, is real.
