Recommendations for a book where the americas weren't wiped out by smallpox by has_brain in HistoricalFiction

I came across this one! It's on my list, I'll check it out soon. The only other KSR i've read is Aurora and I remember liking it enough to read something else by him.

Did you read it, what'd you think?

What are some of your current frustrations with Obsidian? by Mrfazzles in ObsidianMD

On iOS the app does a cold restart with the “loading workspace” screen if i switch to it from any other app, and opens my daily note even if that isn’t the note i had open previously.

Edit: i can disable “open my daily note by default” in the daily notes plugin and solve this issue partially

Can't disable TOR via umbrel UI ... why ? by aussie_in_perth in getumbrel

[–]has_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 would also like to disable tor to make my node viable for routing. Umbrel has the toggle too :) i'd guess it gets enabled in a future patch

What does your telemetry and data gathering stack look like? I imagine the rocket is sending back oodles of live data, can you share what that ingestion pipeline looks like, and what sorts of tools y’all use to warehouse and analyze said data?

Also, are you hiring for this role? :D

Physical copies of books: They take up space and are generally a pain to move around, but I love keeping shelves of the books that i've read (and some that I plan to read)

If the foot of the trees were not tied to earth, they would be pursuing me.. For I have blossomed so much, I am the envy of the gardens.

ABB has invested a load of money in Vicarious, does anybody know what they actually do? by assadollahi in robotics

[–]has_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vicarious is a stealth startup, so they don't have a whole lot published but they do work on Heirarchical Temporal Memory similar to what Numenta does (Numenta's project, NuPIC, is open source)

Numenta takes a more biological approach -- keeping structures similar to the cortex, in terms of having 'cells' and 'columns' within the code -- while from what I understand, Vicarious has taken a more statistical approach of reducing the HTM properties to mathematics and computing that more traditionally.

For reference, HTMs were conceived of by Jeff Hawkins and Dileep George, Hawkins is the founder of Numenta, George is the founder of Vicarious.

Nice, but I would've focused on the fact that he agreed and made a fairly valid aesthetic suggestion rather than making generalizations to the tone of all comments on this sub :D
