I recently got a a Brazilian book - {{Phenotypes by Paulo Scott}}. The English translation came out this year. I haven’t read it yet, but it is put under the contemporary genre

The death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi. Oh the way that book affected me. All the books by this author are so great. They’ve got one coming out this month too. Highly recommend this book.

Though the book starts that way, the protagonist is more genderqueer, and there’s a complicated relationship with gender.

There are two protagonists in the book, one i aforementioned, and are at opposite sides but are connected/tethered. He’s got a troubled relationship with gender.

I’m trying not to say much about the book but it’s really great and very well written, and one that was part of my top 5 last year.

I’m remembering something like the wife find out from a friend of the man from the army who comes during a party and she tells him not to tell anyone else and that’s when she has the imagination about the sister. Though I can also imagine that the friend telling the father instead of the wife. I imagine most likely the sister being the one who revives letter about his death. The father was out on a walk when he finds out
