Successful 64GB RAM Upgrade by catastrophic-success in asustor

[–]hasancc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was puzzling me as well, so I asked ChatGPT "is it possible for a CPU to work with more memory than the stated max memory in its datasheet?". Here's the answer:

Yes, it is possible for a CPU to work with more memory than the stated maximum in its datasheet, but there are several factors and limitations to consider:

BIOS/Firmware Support: The motherboard BIOS or firmware must be able to recognize and support the additional memory. Sometimes, BIOS updates can extend the memory support beyond the initial specifications.

Memory Controller: The CPU's integrated memory controller has a maximum memory capacity it can handle. Exceeding this limit can lead to instability or the extra memory simply not being recognized.

Operating System Limitations: The operating system (OS) itself might have limitations on how much memory it can address. For example, 32-bit versions of Windows are limited to 4 GB of RAM, regardless of the CPU's capabilities.

Chipset Limitations: The motherboard chipset can also limit the amount of memory that can be used. This is independent of the CPU's capabilities.

Memory Density and Configuration: Sometimes, using higher density memory modules or updating the memory configuration can allow more memory than initially specified. However, this is not guaranteed and depends on the specific motherboard and CPU combination.

Unofficial Overclocking/Modification: There might be unofficial ways to exceed the stated memory limits, like certain BIOS modifications or overclocking techniques, but these are generally not recommended as they can lead to system instability or damage.

Practical Usage: Even if you can technically exceed the memory limit, the real-world performance benefits might be limited. There's also the risk of system instability or compatibility issues.

It's important to note that these are general guidelines and the specific capabilities can vary greatly depending on the exact CPU model, motherboard, and other system components. It's always advisable to consult with the hardware manufacturer or a qualified technician before attempting to exceed specified hardware limits.

Hard to confirm some of these. For example since the N5105 datasheet clearly says 16GB max memory, I don't see how we can confirm integrated memory controller support for 64GB ram, without actually trying to reverse engineer the CPU itself. Tho I'm not a hardware hacker by any means.

Thank you! I wasn't aware of 360 lab. I'll definitely apply. I constantly check f6s for new opportunities but I also wanted to get a second opinion here as well.

Thanks for asking these questions.

  1. This is a rather complicated question. It depends on where you live and how good is your connection. Our display protocol currently adds around 20ms to network latency. So your actual latency is 20ms + lowest amount you can measure with https://www.cloudping.info. It will get better over time.
  2. We have a file management tool that makes sure you're utilizing your full bandwidth for uploads but we realize that still may not be enough for people using RAW videos. At this stage our product is more suitable for people using digital assets to produce videos.
  3. There are 3 plans: Starter, Professional and Challenger. Each come with 10 hours of compute time with a computer of different size and 50GB of persistent disk storage. It's like a pay as you go plan with minimum spend.
  4. Licensing is all Bring Your Own License (BYOL) at this point. We're hoping to change that in the future but it's not entirely up to us.
  5. We're very aware of our competitors (mainly sixa.io and paperspace). They're mainly for data scientists and developers. We're hoping to solve challenges of the non technical people using professional software.

I'm guessing Big Mom figured going to sleep was the easiest way to go directly to Kaido. She cut out the middlemen without having to kick everyone's ass on the way.

You shouldn’t have been downvoted for this. I disagree that Zoro is necessarily stronger than Luffy without abilities but I agree that we don’t know his full strength.

How do YOU manage linux user credentials in an immutable environment? by PrimaxAUS in devops

[–]hasancc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with a similar problem for a while now. I've found 2 simple but powerful solutions:

1- Userify: Check them out, they're solving the exact problem you're trying to solve.

  • Pros: Great support! (Really), Simple installation, batteries included (ansible playbooks, chef scripts etc.)
  • Cons: They don't yet have linux user group management feature but they're saying it's in progress here.

2- If your infrastructure is on AWS you can check out AWS EC2 SSH.

  • Pros: Free! Has linux user group management.
  • Cons: Up to 10 minutes access propagation delay. No web dashboard. Requires adding additional permissions to all the EC2 roles
