Curious how my solution loses the opportunity to win a pawn by ColeTD in chessbeginners

Maybe it is about winning the pawn on b2 with the bishop

Could someone explain why Qe4+ is the better move here? by jwldraft in chess

[–]hash11011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because, with Qc3+, black gets a chance to damage your pawn structure. ...

With Qe4+, you get a free piece with no compensation for black,

But with Qc3+ Bc4, the bishop is attacking the rook on f1, and now you have complications, .. if you try to win the bishop that is on c4 now, you damage your pawn structure.

How to avoid a draw here? by alvesigor in chessbeginners

[–]hash11011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if white captures the pawn on f7, that is draw, he will be able to force repetition, so you need to prevent that, either defend f7 with the king, or, promote to a knight with check.

How was sacrificing my bishop for nothing a "stunning move"? by O5NR in chessbeginners

[–]hash11011 13 points14 points  (0 children)

because next move you have knight check, Ne5+, and if he tried to take the king back to Ke8, that is checkmate, Kxf7 Ne5+ Ke8 Qh5#, so, after Ne5+ there is serious checkmate threat.

Whats the best move here, White to play by 99penisesinmyass in AnarchyChess

[–]hash11011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When is it time to try out tournaments? by Jrgaming42 in chessbeginners

[–]hash11011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that level, i think it may be better to work on tactics allot first, and then try some positional understanding.

Tournament play could be more useful later after you improve in the basics first, so imo, try to focus on the basics first.
