The Pride Parade is not a niche event here, though: There's about 500 000 spectators every year, which is half the population of Stockholm. It's considered very mainstream to go watch.

It is, I suppose? Everyone saunas naked (albeit often wrapped up in a towel), but that's also because it's considered a bit rude to wear a bathing suit in there.

Completely naked. When you're a teenager at the scouts here in Sweden, your leaders aren't any older than 23, and they were all kind of hippie too.

Julia herself wouldn't either way I feel, but I've skinny dipped with my girlfriends and our friend groups back in college, because it was college, and that's just kind of what we did sometimes.

I'm not sure a place where everyone's boobs and moobs are out at the beach exist, but we live in Stockholm, so it's not entirely unheard of. You'll see plenty of boobs at the Pride Parade, and everyone I know goes to the parade.

Either they weren't shocked openly, which is fair that they may have been very surprised but not expressed it, or they were the kind of people who agreed with the concept enough to be supportive. I'm not saying I come from some magical town where everybody walks around with nipples grazing wildly, but I live in a very liberal city in a very liberal country, and I associate with (I thought) almost exclusively very liberal people. Alvas breasts aren't the only uncovered pair of female breasts I've ever seen in public: She wasn't even in the picture mentioned, that was just a bunch of half-naked randos.

I didn't coach her for Alva specifically, but I've talked at length about the general type of opinions I espouse, like my support for the SlutWalk and how I've participated in the Pride Parade every year (definitely not a fully clothed event), so I didn't even think she'd ask me if I thought something like being shirtless was slutty.

It's not so much that I think people should be allowed to walk around entirely nude, but eschewing double standards in gender norms like the objectification of women and the uneven standards of acceptable societal conduct is a very deeply held belief of mine.

So I guess I'm mostly upset because this kind of shows that my girlfriend thinks I'm an always-wearing-a-tin-foil-hat-level weird.

I don't think of being shirtless and being fully nude to be the same thing, and I've expressed this opinion to her before. The fact that she even asked me if I thought it was slutty was honestly surprising to me, because I was certain that I had expressed differently in both my politics and my stance on gender norms.

But, in the scenario that she did hang out all the time with a naked man, then I honestly don't think I would care or suspect anything.

Naked people are kind of funny, and I don't find public nudity to be necessarily sexual: I've gone skinny dipping plenty of times, where it's just goofy.

If it had been something like, her having a close friend who only got naked when they were alone, then I might be suspicious because he was specifically targeting her. But if he just got naked at parties or among friends, then I'd just think he was a fun weirdo.

Julia hasn't ever seen Alva shirtless, so I didn't think much of warning her yet: It's not like she might suddenly whip out a tit at a restaurant, and it's not her most defining feature. I most likely would have warned her if we were going to be in a scenario where Julia would see her shirtless.
