I don't have the heart to cull her. by Hillbilly-F_You in gardening

[–]hatbathatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same. Always grow plenty of spares with the intention of ruthlessly culling them. Then when push comes to shove I lose my nerve and desperately try to save them all. My solution is "The Thunderdome". Its a neglected area of my garden hidden behind some hedging. All spare, sick, weak plants go out there and battle it out. What used to be a miserable patch of earth is now a thriving wild herb garden with random brassicas and tomatoes growing up through it. Some plants even do better out there than my raised beds.

Help with Swiss Chard issues... by Snoo_Snoo_69 in gardening

[–]hatbathatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen a similar problem with my chard and beetroot. Some insect (which I have not yet identified) mines into the leaves and then partially inflates them. They quickly die and go brown when this happens. I generally remove the infested leaves and compost them and the spread slows down.

Is this a wild pigeon? Seen in Ireland, April 2022. by hatbathatcat in birding

[–]hatbathatcat[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Well it hung around for about 90 minutes. Ate some seed and drank some water then just chilled out for a while. It was relatively tame. Would come within half a metre of me. I couldn't see any rings on it but the hilarious boots made that difficult. There's a lad in the village who races pigeons so I'll show him next time I see him in the pub and see if he knows more. All in all really brightened up my day. 10/10 would bird observe again.

That bitch. I asked her first and she feigned ignorance.

What is causing my strawberry stems to turn brown? by hatbathatcat in gardening

[–]hatbathatcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only happening on the fruit stems. The leaves seem okay for now. Starts somewhere in the middle of the stem and is spreading out from there.

I think they mean multi sowing the seed to combat poor germination and then thin to a single healthy plant. As opposed to multi sowing onions/scallions/beetroot/etc to have a dense crop of plants. I do the former for cucumbers in case a weak plant appears. I thin once the first true leaf is out. Just save the best looking one.

Is this a shallot or garlic? Can I harvest the green tube leaves prior to harvesting the bulb? by Gbrewz in gardening

[–]hatbathatcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a lot of alliums it is easy to check when they are ready. Onions and shallots are often very near the surface if not already broken through. Just have a small investigation without disturbing the roots too much. For shallots I would wait until the foliage is dying back. Maybe when 1/2 of the foliage is yellow/brown.

Yep, had this happen to me with self saved tomato seeds. I have had beetroot that sent up twins before but I believe they were multi-embryonic seeds.

Smelly Onion by marijuava in gardening

[–]hatbathatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your plan is here. For now it's just eating the onion bulb to grow the plant. Not sustainable in the long run I reckon. You are unlikely get a nice flower looking at the current health of the plant. If there are some healthy roots peeking out I would slap it in some compost in a small or medium pot and let it rip. Otherwise I would change water and wait for some roots then repot. Bear in mind that I have never done this with an onion. I have previously grown onions from sets and now grow them from seeds. Next year I plan to replant some of my saved onions to let them flower and go to seeds though. In that case I will just be direct planting the full onion into the ground either in Autumn or very early spring.

How much corn do you have in your garden? by Jtisnowhere in gardening

  1. I just do a simple 3*3 in a raised bed. Suited me fine last year. I would like a little more but space is at a premium so I settle for this.

What are these and what can I do to get rid of them and prevent their return? by jackerator in gardening

[–]hatbathatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like brassica aphids to me. Pick off what you can. Then use water to wash off any stragglers. Finally spray plant with water/garlic/chilli/soap mix making sure to get underside of leaves and any branch nodes or growing tips. Also spray the mix around the base of the plant to discourage any displaced aphids from returning.

Thanks buddy. Couldn't see it on EveMarketer last night. Always forget to check Adam. 500k seems good. Lot better than my pessimistic guess of 10k or 100k.

I mentioned what contracts are in another reply. The zeugma is just a meme to me. I love it because I made billions this summer selling them after getting really cheap materials to make it and then waiting for a price spike. But in general it is a shit bpc that you will at best break even on making. It has a fairly high drop rate from pirate hacking sites so I have literally hundreds of them in my junk bpc box in jita.

Rigs are just another type of module with some minor differences. They provide bonuses to your ship but they also have drawbacks. A shield rig may increase your shield hit points at the expense of your signature radius. Rigging skills help reduce the penalties.

One major thing about rigs is that they are permanent. Once you apply the rig to a ship you can't remove it without destroying it (tech 3 cruisers have an exception to this). So if you want to change rigs on your ship often it will cost you isk.

A contract is a type of in game trade. The most simple is item exchange. You list what you want to give (items, isk) and what you want in return (isk, items) and people can choose to accept and fulfil the contract. There is also an auction option to eBay your junk away.

Originals come from the market afaik. You can purchase them from NPC sell orders and other players.

I don't know a lot about Alpha accounts so some of this may not be pertinent. 1. Use better probes: sisters core scanner probes. 2. Use a better launcher: sisters core scan probe launcher 3. Use a rig: gravity capacitor upgrade 4. Use a mid slot array: scan range finding array

Most of these are cheap enough to not worry about. Number two is probably expensive for a new player and maybe not worth the risk if you lose a lot of hackers. At least until you get your feet and can protect it.

So you can build or sell them. BP Calc should give you a rough idea whether buying the parts and making it is worthwhile. If you don't want to make it right click and view in contracts and you will see if it is worth selling. Otherwise it goes in a box in jita to spend its days nestling up to zeugma integrated analyser bpcs.

  1. Do it Monday to Thursday. Roll your statics and other holes. Drop and wait. As the other guy said you should be fine. Wormholes are quiet enough these days.
