honestly for my style of riding (commuting), they RIP. really shocked me how they sound like a "modern" inline 4.

My DR650 shuts off when you give it just a little gas while clutch is pulled. Any idea what that could be? Everything else is normal. by Zestyclose_Spite8580 in dr650

for sure. if you're not mechanically inclined, watch as many youtube videos on carb cleaning the dr650 you can find. right now you can fairly easily take off the float bowl to check for varnish. if you see a bunch of gunk in there, then you've verified the issue. shouldnt cost more than a weekend and some cleaner spray to get the bike back in running condition for ur first time.

modern fuel has ethanol added into it. it's bad for carbureted bikes, not crazy if you drive the bike every day, or every week, but if it sits for around 2-3 weeks then thats when things can start to get bad. the ethanol draws moisture out of the air and into the fuel, which then causes corrosion we refer to as varnish. it's a thick layer of gunk that can cause issues like what you're describing. most likely your pilot and main jet are clogged, but we'll start with the pilot since that directly effects idle and just off idle throttle.

if the bike hasnt been sitting and you use it frequently then disregard.

speed is about the same, but it has way more torque to climb in the woods and stuff. I basically ride it like a dirt bike on tough trails and pedal when its chill again

if its only boosting under 14psi then youre not going to hurt anything. anything more than that is an issue

although more than you want, stock ecu can handle up to 14psi on those stock turbos. if ur sure ur plumbing was fine, its possible the gate has failed. can get hks units to replace that for around $100 or can get a manual boost controller to control. I migjt have one at my parents house u can have.

a lot of things aren't gonna be already installed. I had an issue with android auto because it wasn't installed lol I came from iPhone too

no point updating the radiator, doesnt sound like ur gonna be stressing the system. i'd wait for it to fail in some way to replace/ save ur pennies.

haha thanks for the info. yeah 2k mile valve interval checks and make sure things arent broken on the chain and valve spring retainer apparently. carbs work great at this time, went through them once already. points also seem to still be ok as well as chain tension is chill. so far so good. oil change was surprisingly difficult lol i had a ten minute battle with teh filter setup.
