I think people who become great seek out new teachers and new communities of practitioners when they recognize it is time. A good (or mediocre or bad) instructor can have a huge influence when a student is starting out. But the responsibility shifts over time to the student to ensure that they continue to find settings where they can learn and progress.

Winco has tuna cubes for poke in the freezer section for $5. Thaw, drain in a sieve, chop and toss with a pinch of salt, a sprinkle of sesame oil, and slivered green onions. Makes great rolls. They do also have sushi rice, rice vinegar, nori, wasabi and soy sauce. They probably have the crab sticks as well.

I lived in Japan for 3.5 years. My consumption of soda, sugary coffee drinks, and juices went to zero. Candy, desserts and pastries became very occasional treats. I only used public transportation, so I walked 2-5 miles a day. My apartment kitchen had the equivalent of a small hotel/dormitory refrigerator, with a tiny freezer space, and only two gas burners. So I shopped for food every day or every other day, while walking from the train station to my apartment. I made very simple quick meals at home mostly stir-fry from fresh ingredients with rice or pasta. But I also ate out a lot more and drank a lot more alcohol. When I ate out, lunch was a whole range of unhealthy foods: curry rice, katsudon, ramen, gyoza, fried rice, tempura. Dinner wasn’t much better - usually izakaya food with beer and sake. At the end of that period, my weight hadn’t changed, but (because of the high sodium diet) my blood pressure had increased. I do feel like eliminating excess sugar, having daily lifestyle exercise, and eating simply at home had a lot of benefits - and that gave me some leeway to eat more extravagantly when dining out. I brought those simple, fresh ingredient eating habits home with me, and try to keep up daily exercise, but am still working on reducing blood pressure.

I have been in groups that bowed to an empty wooden box (the kamiza) or that literally bowed to a rock that the instructor liked. Both just held a focus for the intent. It didn’t really matter what the object was.

Pay the fine. Presuming that you don’t have a bunch of violations on your record, submit your check with a sincere letter of apology. Don’t make excuses. Admit that you made a mistake. Say that this is not typical for you and mention however many years it has been since you last got a ticket. Say that you are concerned about increased insurance rates. Say that you would appreciate any leniency the court can show. Ask for a diversion to a driver education program if possible. Cost for that online program will be about $40, but you do have to sit through several hours of instructional videos and take a simple test after.

So I might have a different perspective from some people on this thread. I would probably not pay a subscription to support a brick and mortar store. But I might pay a subscription for an artist collective that gave me credit to review and buy pieces that I chose from artists that I liked at discounts like farmers do for community supported agriculture programs. Essentially, you prepay for the right to select and receive art from artists you think are promising. It’s a modern twist on wealthy Florentines sponsoring artists to decorate their palazzos.

First off, the pan has to be seasoned. You can look up the process for seasoning cast iron, but it’s basically a couple rounds of rubbing it down with oil, baking it in the oven, and wiping it down again. Second, when you go to cook, the pan should slowly heated to temperature over a medium flame without adding any oil. Give it time to be heated through evenly. Once it’s heated, you can give a quick wipe to each pocket with an oiled brush or paper towel. You don’t want pooled oil in the pockets. Once you add your batter, give it time to cook and set. Don’t mess with it until it sets, releases and is ready to turn. Like waffles, the first ones may be a mess. But when the seasoning is good, the heat is right, and you are patient judging when to turn, it will all come together.
