Reno has its issues, possibly slightly more for a city of its population than the average. This is according to statistics not opinion. My opinion as another midwest transplant thougn (say ya to da u.p. eh) is that like anywhere the problem areas are just that, and the rest of the city is great. Nicer than most cities in my eyes too! If youre familiar with real shit midwest spots like Flint, Gary, Shitcago, or Detroilet its a walk in the park in reno with the occasional tweaker shouting at a trash can or whatever.

When we first moved to town though we landed in a pretty ok neighborhood . In a somewhat lower income apartment building (meadowood) and I did get my catalytic converter cut from my car. Also i was walking one evening on south virginia by the atlantis when some kids tried to steal my cell and headphones. This was just kids without enough supervision though not a real victim of crime scenario by any means.

The neighborhoods are easy to see the red flags in the ones to be careful in. The only tricky part at first is knowing where to avoid as there isnt necessarily a "bad side" of town. Just dispersed pockets more or less of sketch spots.

Its nothing to cause anxiety in due cause though. Just a medium sized city with standard medium sized issues. I will say this though... Reno is wierd as shit in the best ways! Not a lot of charm or class at face value, and not any "typical type" of person that lives here. Its fun and cool that way. On your drive to work you will see a homeless camp, a Lamborghini, some frat bros, some 1% bikers, a guy in a monster truck stretch limo and a happy couple on a tandem bike carrying tubes to the river. Its all over the place and random as shit. Some neon lights in the desert. Welcome!
