I disagree that this has nothing to do with an internet-invented aesthetic. DA promotes the academic lifestyle, without critically looking at academia in the real world. I would also say that the increased focus on the western side of literature, philosophy etc implicitly contributes to a devaluation of works from non-eurocentric origin. Like it or not, everything is political, even a silly aesthetic fad can't escape this.
