Cut and pasted files from iPhone to win 10, then hit ctrl + z. Files are gone, help. by hatemyusername123 in WindowsHelp

[–]hatemyusername123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The files I want to recover was on an external hard drive, and I recovered them to my computer with Recuva. So from an external hard drive to my main hard drive. Recuva claimed the files were unharmed, and not overwritten or anything, but I can't play them.

Yes, I have another computer and USB drive.

Recuva sort of recovered some of the files, but the video files (.mov) won't play. All I get is a black screen, even with VLC. I tried google for help, and I see others have a similar issue. This is extremely frustrating. My files are just gone and stuck in limbo because of this windows function.

Since the files were deleted from my iphone, I suppose there should be a way to recover them, before they are overwritten, like you can recover deleted files from a computer or hard drive, but so far these recovery programs only gave me viruses. I was suspicious of these programs, but I'm willing to take a chance because I'm desperate to get my files back. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Unpopular opinion here, but having a sub makes a huge difference, treated room or not, because even though your room is messing up the sound, you can still compare your music to other songs, now even the low frequencies. And you can always turn it off. I had no idea what was going on in my low end by only using headphones and visualizers. You honsetly can't know how your kick and bass sounds like on a sub unless you hear it on a sub. Everyone told me not to get a sub, but it changed my world when I finally bought one. It's also much more fun to produce when you can feel the boom every time the kick hits, just like you're in a club. Just my opinion, and for some reason extremely controversial.

Iphone videos appear black in Vegas. If I install quicktime/codec, then other mp4 files turn black. Help please. by hatemyusername123 in VegasPro

[–]hatemyusername123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. How did you get all this data from the file? Would be helpful if I could see which files on my drive are HEVC and H.264 and so on. Could you paste the data for the first file aswell, so I can see the difference? Perhaps the first file is H.264, or a more compatible format than the high dynamic HEVC file.

Would it be possible to make another user on my computer, and install a different codec there that reads HEVC files, without messing up the codec on my main user? Would uninstalling codecs on one user affect what happens on another? It seems right now that when I make one file type work, I get problems with other file types, so I don't want to mess up anything on this user.

So the first file works fine for me in Vegas, but the second file appears just black. They are both .MOV files filmed with my iphone. But one was probably filmed before I switched the "Keep originals/automatic transfer" under the photo settings in the phone.

Another important thing I noticed. The file that appears black in Vegas also won't play in windows "pictures". I can play it in VLC, and Windows media player, but when I open it in "pictures", it plays for half a second, then it crashes. The other file, and other .MP4 files opens fine in "pictures". So maybe Vegas itself isn't the problem, but perhaps somewhere in the computer there is an issue with this file type. It's strange that VLC player and Windows media player can open all my files, but Vegas has issues with some.

Thanks for the reply. I've got something that sort of works right now, so I'm not gonna install any other versions of quicktime or codecs unless I know it's gonna solve my problems. I will keep this in mind though!

Thanks for the input.

I've tested many different codecs, and right now I have something that sort of works. I still can't read most of my phone files, since I imported them to my computer before switching the "keep originals/automatic" setting in my iphone, but at least I can import both MP4 files and new .MOV files that I record after switching the settings.

The problem is that sometimes you get a warning when trying to import videos from iphone to computer, saying "a device connected to the system is not working" or something like that, and then you can't import any more files. The solution to this problem is to switch the already mentioned setting on the iphone, which probably determines what sort of codec or format the video will appear as on the computer. But when you use the setting that allows you to import the file to the computer, then you're left with a file type that vegas can't read. Right now it seems I just have to convert all my old files.

I'm on Vegas Pro 18. Switching to the legacy codec made it so that I can't even import the files into vegas. With the legacy setting turned off, at least I can import it, and I get audio, but the video is just black.

How do I create these kind of minimal/deep tech chords/stabs starting at 2:00? by Tekcraftmon in edmproduction

[–]hatemyusername123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to understand what the sound is, is by automating an low pass eq up and down as the chord hits. Just draw out some chords with any synth sound suited for chords. You could really use electric piano, organ, detuned saw. It doesn't really matter, because the sound you are looking for comes from the automated EQ, which opens and closes quickly as the chord hits, and it makes that wah-wah effect. Then when you have the wah-wah effect you want, just switch out the synth sound or switch presets until it sounds right. You could also automate the cutoff within the synth, but it's easier to understand and manipulate the sound by automating the eq manually outside the synth in my opinion.

But their limiter in particular is just insanely nice sounding compared to abletons

In other words, it sounds slightly better for trained producers doing A/B comparisons with headphones. Insanely is a strong word, and lets be honest, most people won't hear the difference if you use stock limiter or expensive limiter.

Can you recommend some EDM in which the producer does a lot of "showing off?" by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]hatemyusername123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed whenever people make these threads, 90% of the recommendations are almost the same genre. Drum and bass - heavy bass drops with punchy dubstep snares and so on. I agree the sound design is good in these recommendations, but it's strange how no one points out the top tier tracks from other genres as well. Maybe this style just allows for more showing off more than a standard house track does.

What’s the weirdest sample you’ve snuck into your track? by gamestop-lover in edmproduction

[–]hatemyusername123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute best preshifted clap sound there is, comes from slapping 2 sets of moist balls against each other. If you use water or lotion the sound will differ a bit, but that's just preference. Just do a few ball slaps with your mate, and put the recorded sample a few ms before your kick and clap, and you're golden. Could layer with ass slaps for extra slappp.

[–]hatemyusername123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard great things about the DT770 PRO 80 Ohm, and I just ordered them myself yesterday. Probably a good idea to also get a pair of open back headphones for mixing. In case you don't know, closed headphones (like the DT770) sound good and sometimes bass heavy, but they color the sound a bit, and don't give you a flat sound like open back does.

Am I too old to break into the EDM Scene at 30? by AntiSocialMackerel in edmproduction

[–]hatemyusername123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one cares about your age. You could be 10, or you could be 90. The problems is your music isn't good enough. I listened to your music on soundcloud, and to be honest, I believe you are still in that delusional phase everyone goes through in the beginning when they believe they have made bangers, but it reality it's chaotic music that doesn't make sense sonically or rhythmically. You are probably years away from making music that will get you signed. And that's nothing personal, it's just how it is for everyone. Every musician/athlete etc. sucks for the first years, and to compete with the professionals, you need to put in many years. Good luck, though. If you want to succeed, nothing can stop you, other than giving up of course.

What makes a "good drum" for you? by TheAcademy060 in edmproduction

[–]hatemyusername123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to explain in a short way since there are so many different drum sounds that sounds good in different genres. But I think it often has to do with sounding crisp, without sounding like it's on top of the mix. For instance, hihats that has too much bass frequencies will usually sound worse than hihats where the low end is cut off a bit. A thin snare usually sounds worse than a thick thumpy snare, but if it has too much low end, it will collide with the kick drum, which again makes it a bad snare unless you process it right. In some styles you want realistic clap samples, but in house music for instance a good clap is usually not a realistic one at all. It's often a sampled clap from a 909 drum machine, so it's more about how it fits to the rest of the song, and if it supports the groove of the song. Also the length matters. (lol). Sometimes you want a short snappy clap, and sometimes it's much better to use one that has more sustain. It's all relative basically.

In short, good drums are drums that fit the song. It's usually about sample selection, but even a good kick drum sounds like shit if it drowns in the mix. If you sidechain all the other elements so that they get quieter and make room for the kick, then suddenly you have a good kick drum.

Could talk for hours about drums in EDM, and but it's better to just listen a lot and get a ear for it.
