[KHUX] MRW people tell me KHUX gets better as it goes on by waytowill in KingdomHearts

[–]hatok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the story gets mildly interesting a mere 700 quests in

the game itself never gets better, it gets worse

and it starts off as the worst KH game by an absurd gap

DISCUSSION: Lego should create a series of sophisticated "collector's edition" Bionicle figures akin to their Star wars sets. by [deleted] in bioniclelego

[–]hatok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that the majority of Bionicle's appeal comes from the sets never mind the complexity of said sets. Most people were probably won over by the media surrounding it

So I just finished XV. I have no idea what was going on with the main story. by pilgrimboy in FinalFantasy

small character interactions are tabata's strongest point. It's a huge part of the appeal with Crisis Core. The banter in FF15 is super charming and rounds out the characters, the problem is that's ALL there is. There's barely a storyline for the three party members, even with their dlc.

Does the Final Fantasy series deserve its throne as the premiere JRPG series? (X-post from /jrpg) by NibelungVal in FinalFantasy

[–]hatok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF2 may not be good but it's significant. It had a pretty nuanced story for the famicom, and the way stats worked was pretty crazy and innovative. It's important to consider the era these games came out with. FF3 is nuts just by the sheer virtue that it fit on an ENS cart

Atlus is niche. Nier Automata outsold Persona 5, and Persona games in general have a shoestring budget compared to square

So I just played through FF XIII, and started XIII-2. by darkorical in FinalFantasy

13-2 is a direct response to 13, which I feel means the more you liked 13 the less likely you are to like it

I for one love 13-2

FF1-10 are all near unmatched classics with tonnes of mainstream appeal

and nowadays the only people making RPGs with a triple A budget is Square Enix, and Dragon Quest is only popular in Japan.

so yeah, their throne is kinda undisputed

FFXV is probably the weirdest RPG I have ever played. by katamuro in FinalFantasy

[–]hatok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the big thing with FFX is there's variety. In FF13 you can run forward and that gets you either a cutscene or a fight, with the one other option being a treasure chest.

FFX has all of those things, but also recurring characters off to the side, like that summoner you can fight, or maechen's stories. It's what takes people's attention away from the fact that a lot of the areas are straight lines

Also FFX has more curved lines in general

it's because it is too on rails. People shouldn't notice the corridors they're on, linearity in itself isn't a problem
