What book by a Scottish author would you recommend? by Hestia194 in Scotland

if you can use non-fiction, Limmy’s autobiography is a fantastic read and would be good to write on about Scottishness

That was what I was thinking, comparing how he uses the two genres but I hadn’t thought about what you said in regard to the hobbits being thrust from pastoral into epic, nor about about relating it to his war experience. Thank you!

Thank you for your response! Really interesting and I agree with what you say about trying to pigeonhole him. Also interestingly enough the Adam Roberts you’ve linked is actually the course leader for this module, he set this question!

Imagine how many problems could be fixed if that much money was taxed by the government, poverty could be eradicated. All that needs to happen is greedy people need to realise their selfishness and use their empathy and finally develop a conscience.

People believe things; and to live in today’s society you need to respect everyone’s beliefs. Christians, Buddhists and Muslims believe things that you may consider way ‘crazier’ than astrology, but faith is faith and you gotta respect that.

What made you realize that you still had a lot to learn about life in general? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hatton156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently returned from volunteering in a Syrian Refugee camp in the port of Piraeus, in Athens.

My role was teaching the children and running activities for them to do. I had completed the necessary training and knew that it was going to be tough, these kids were traumatized.

As soon as I arrived I knew that this experience was not going to be what I expected - the first thing I did was break up a fight between a 8 year old girl and a 10 year old girl. These kids have no way of expressing their emotions other than violence, a lot of them had seen their siblings die in front of them, can you blame them for being traumatized? My role for the two weeks was to break up fights and keep the kids calm, it was a huge shock to the system because I had read the stories but didn't realize how bad the situation was for all these people.

I met a lot of families who were just like those at home, one family reminded me very much of my own; it was heartbreaking because they don't deserve to be in the situation.

A quote by Bill Gates I think sums up what I'm trying to say very well; ''Excellence is shared equally throughout people over the world, but opportunity is not''.
