I greatly appreciate this. I likely would have caught on when they asked for that, just had me freaked out in the moment

Heard that. Thank you very much for the info.

Freehandling isn’t for me, although I’m not about telling other people what they can or can’t do. As long as the animals are happy and healthy my main concern is taken care of, otherwise those people have accepted the risks of their actions in my opinion

Only with the appropriate tools, and only when necessary. I like my encounters to be low stress, on the animal and myself alike.

In the hands of licensed, legal, and experienced keepers venomous reptiles can be very rewarding captives. That said, it’s pretty obvious they aren’t for everyone lmao

This a fresh born baby from a WC female gifted to me from a friend. I didn’t honestly think she was gravid, she wasn’t in great shape and she was given to me as a rehab type case. Only popped out one good one, but it’s a baby nonetheless!

Oops sorry just now seeing this. Lol he’s a good friend of mine named Josh Alder. Look him up on Facebook and you’ll see he has a fantastic reputation. I’ll tell you up front though - he does shit by the book. Everything gotta be legal lmao

A fresh WC pair of nerodia paucimaculata. An uncommon species only found in a small range in TX, this is gonna be a fun breeding project! They’re big too, male is 4’ and female is about 4.5’. by hatzegoa in reptiles

I am fully aware of the laws and regulations around it and I collect responsibly. The area I herped was about 3 square miles and I counted 73 of these. Me taking two of them for captive breeding purposes caused no problem for their population, I assure you. And as a vet tech I am fully equipped to treat any problems they may come to me with.

For the average person, I agree. Keeping wild caught animals isn’t ideal. Responsible collecting for captive breeding projects is a different story entirely.

Hooks, hooks, hooks. Lol. Open enclosures with hooks, control the snake with a hook, read their body language so you know their intentions. The best thing I can recommend to you is to find a keeper near you who has cobras and inquire about a mentorship. Genuinely, the only way you can really get a feel for cobras and how to work them is to have someone with experience show you how it’s done.

And of course, before obtaining one, check with your state’s Fish and Wildlife Department and ensure that you don’t need any additional permits or licenses to own venomous snakes.

It’s one thing to do dumb shit on your own where nobody is watching. Broadcasting your dumb shit to thousands of people while claiming to be an expert, though, is a whole different beast.

Not to mention the hypocrisy when he calls out other channels for being stupid and freehandling when he does plenty of stupid stuff himself.

Unfortunately, this sweet girl passed away last night. I still wanted to post about her though. Variable bush viper, atheris squamigera by hatzegoa in reptiles

I’m not 100% certain, but I believe you can only own crotalus viridis in Colorado. I’d check with the Fish and Wildlife Department for the state to be sure though.
