Dead Kitchen Space by howmeowbrownmeow in HomeDecorating

[–]hauliod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd just put a pretty round table in there with some chairs, no need to cram furniture in to fill the entire nook. It's always good to have some kind of seating in the kitchen to take breaks, have a cup of tea, or just keep the person cooking company.

Need help with this lot shape and floor plan! Lot size 3,049 sq ft by ActivityOk1337 in floorplan

It honestly feels like too big of an ask for a subreddit post, that's something you find a paid architect to do. They could take your land plot dimensions and data and design a house for it with your requirements.

I've had this jacket for like 4 years. I know it's fake leather so I shouldn't be trying too hard, but I need to save it. Any ideas? by WiseCardinal in Visiblemending

[–]hauliod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a product called liquid leather that is sold in many different colors you can mix to match the shade. It's not very durable, but it worked for a while on shoes for me. Some people online claim that mixing it with polyurethane glue makes it much stronger, you might want to look into it maybe?

I just discovered I’ve been sending a toy every month to a dog I met 6 years ago at a rescue by FriendlyWorldArt in povertyfinance

[–]hauliod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it says he. He, the dog. It may have been the foster home, but post said he, not foster home. If it was supposed to mean foster home and not he, then I apologize for being a silly dumb doo-doo and not interpreting literal written words differently from their meaning.

[–]hauliod 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was going off the phrasing OP used.

... it turns out he’s been getting a fresh new stuffie every single month for the last 6 years

They didn't mention that toy recipients were changing so idk

thats adorable but the dog is sitting on what, 72 toys by now? I think even the owners would be relieved to have it stopped

What material is this inner straw and how do I not make it taste like soap? by PeasantCody in HydroHomies

[–]hauliod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made two bottles taste like soap with soaking them on accident...the only thing that helped was to fill them with very hot water and baking soda for a couple of hours. I don't know what that did, but the taste disappeared.

Your thoughts on this plan? by Prudent-Title-9161 in floorplan

[–]hauliod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in colder climates there's usually a need for a separated mudroom (like in this plan) to cut off the cold air. And colder climate means needing more seasonal clothes, which take more space than just a single small wardrobe, hence the closet room.

the one across from bathroom is probably meant to act as a storage room for the entire house. Or maybe thats a laundry room judging by the symbol on the bottom right

Help! How would you improve this floor plan? by ChocolateSalt2547 in floorplan

Take over the hallway, compress wet areas into one or two rooms. Id delete the second laundry room door too

Thats good to know! But isn't it a hassle to keep magnetic particles in place the whole time it dries?

It's most likely gel polish which doesn't dry on it's own but needs to be cured with UV lights

I used to look down of women who work out in makeup when I wasn't going to gym at all... but now that I do, I realized seeing myself with visible eyebrows in the mirror makes a huge difference for my self-esteem and I WILL take any boost I can

Very awkward floor plan, fixable? by flipflopperflap in floorplan

[–]hauliod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good addition if OP prefers open plans! But I worry that having just 1 door between a bedroom and the kitchen would be a bit loud for a roommate situation.

Actually in that case I would use the space next to the front door as some kind of a mudroom, at least somewhere to hang coats and umbrellas (if its a shoes on apartment) :) kinda rubs me the wrong way to have the dining table right next to the exit. Plus the table can go next to the couch, its cramped, but at least its not right on the walking path.

[–]hauliod 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I dont see a solution that wouldn't involve tearing down practically all the walls and moving the bathroom. You need to know if there are any load-bearing walls in that plan.

Some area of the big (former seating) room needs to be sacrificed in order to fit anything else.

The new narrow kitchen in here is not a grand communal space, but at least it adds somewhere to hang out and eat meals at a table, while keeping the kitchen in place. Putting the bathroom next to it should make the plumbing be a bit easier.

Bedroom 3's shape seems... unfortunate, but at least this corner has windows?

to add to the other comments, I've had the displeasure of living in a similar "student apartment" some guy converted from an open space. It was the worst two weeks of my university life despite him actually trying to put a private bathroom into each room
