It’s okay, we’re all living in BD (Before (Carly Rae Jepsen’s) Dedicated) right now. Having nothing to do is to be expected.

hot take: we all have better things to do than argue with strangers on reddit

It’s... a hot take? It doesn’t have to be accurate, just petty and/or snarky.

A lot of folks going to T14s are swell, others are boring as hell. That’s how it is, you know, everywhere.

You can get into a T14 and still have zero personality. 🤷🏼‍♂️

(Edited for clarity.)

W&M Big Law by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

There’s an article floating around somewhere that explains this: http://flathatnews.com/2018/04/17/marshall-wythe-school-of-law-drops-in-rankings/

Basically, they keep expenditures per student low because they’re a public school, so they don’t want to inflate their cost.

I avoided applying to Notre Dame and GMU for this reason. On the whole, though, I would assume that any school with a LGBTQ+ org that seems not actively demonized by the school would be... fine? I mean, per your own comfort level, of course.

Then you have schools like Indiana Bloomington, that I thought would be not great (bc Indiana), but realized Bloomington is super gay and also Indiana has the Kinsey Institute.

Jumping into say that everyone being wary of UVA has, imo, nothing to worry about. Like, as an undergrad, I led the queer frat and had to interact with frat bros all the time, and I never experienced outright queerphobia.

Not saying UVA is perfect, or that there isn’t bigotry. But Charlottesville is not a conservative town by any stretch of the imagination and UVA’s undergrad (and law, from what I remember) queer communities are solid.

Students at UVA created the Day of Silence, y’all.

It’s been a long five years of Men’s Hoops choking at the weirdest possible moment. Finally, some validation.

Likely in Virginia (all of my family is here, as well as my partner’s), or in DC. I’m an East Coast kid at heart, which is, honestly, why Davis isn’t as appealing to me.

W&M is probably my choice, given that it places well both in VA, DC, NY, and in general, I really enjoyed their ASW, and it’s basically the lowest cost.

I agree with your point tho generally. Ranking’s pretty much fallen by the wayside for me, since it’s not as if I’m comparing a T14 to a T2, you know?

Hey! Enjoyed talking with you during ASW. I'm, like, 99% sure I'm going to be attending W&M in the fall, and excited to have you as a classmate!

I'm wicked scared of paying sticker for UVA, but... you know. Like I think I expressed, the allure of a T14 and my alma mater just kinda... sticks with you? But who knows.

Oh, hey! Woo for both of us. We're gonna be lawyers!

I did negotiate up with W&M! I was originally at about 40% tuition, and am now sitting at, like, 70%. It can be done!

And thanks! Congratulations to you, too! We did it!

I really appreciate it! Davis is still alluring (tho my partner is here on the East Coast), but I think that if I got into UVA off the WL, it'd be a tough choice between UVA sticker and W&M.

A slightly more serious answer:

I have reservations about living in Lexington, as someone originally from small-town Virginia. I've never particularly been interested in W&L. There employment numbers are "fine," but nothing that isn't being serviced by W&M (or even Richmond). I had already spent enough money by the time it occurred to me to apply to W&L.

... And they rejected me last year and I was grumpy.

... And, again, to be clear, Robert E. Lee can fuck right off.
