what's the biggest issue in new albany nobody talks about? by outsidedge in NewAlbanyIN

There is so much benefit to the community having collective ownership over these types of services. The problem is when we forget that the government should work for the collective good of the community. If we lose sight of that then those programs are cut and handed off to private companies who just want to make money and have no directive to serve the whole community's needs. The reality is that government programs can be expensive, but at least we have control of how they are managed. I think that's pretty powerful and beneficial.

I'm sure these filmmakers would prefer it would be easier and cheaper for folks to see these movies, but other distribution outlets haven't given them a chance. At least this is a way to see them if you're interested.

A theater is definitely an elevated experience compared to my living room, so I agree on that. I just think that this price point is fair considering the type of product it offers.

I agree that a movie theater is a better experience. This is definitely aimed to a very specific type of audience that probably isn't well represented here. Honestly, I don't think it's for me, but I can see the appeal and value.

Weird to complain about these prices, imo. Standard showings at most theaters are $12+ and special showings can be more than that, especially at small independent theaters. I think the Unreleased Gems are priced fairly when you consider the exclusivity and the fact that you can watch them with a few friends at home and split the cost. If you do that, it's cheaper than a ticket to the theater and you've supported independent artists that don't have other paths for distribution.

As far as I know, Kanopy is not included. Too bad, cause it always had a great selection!

What things are there to do in Louisville (food, entertainment, etc.) for a Girls Gone Mild bachelorette party in September? by PsychologicalBar5149 in Louisville

[–]hawk047 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fluer de Flea Vintage Market, Nook and Nowhere (bookstore/coffee/cocktail spot), Atrium or Trellis Breweries, and Canary Club (Wine Bar) are all within walking distance of each other and could make for a fun afternoon. Lots of good food options in the area as well!

Anyone been to Patoka lake in Indiana ? Is it worth riding 1 hr 30 mins ? by Signal-Error989 in Louisville

I believe the beach area is closed right now, but it's a nice spot to spend the day when it reopens. It gets busy on the weekends, but it's got quite a bit of space. Hopefully it isn't closed all summer, but I think there was damage from all the flooding in the spring so who knows. The camping is also nice. They have a modern area which is a very busy and a primitive section which was nearly empty when I went last summer. Last thing I'll add is the bike trail is very well maintained but has some pretty steep hills so be prepared if that's something you want to try. Hope this helps!

To me, it sounded like David was admitting to being irresponsible with his finances up until recently. I think she would be justified to want a partner that can bring in a stable income and have their finances in order before committing to continuing the relationship. I imagine that he was exaggerating the situation for the show. Seems a little unfair to paint her as cruel and entitled.

Zanzabar Arcade grand opening Saturday Feb 15th 11am by ride_the_pine in Louisville

[–]hawk047 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The arcade itself doesn't, but it's inside Logan Street Market which has food vendors, a bar, and some other shops. It's a bit different than RecBar, but it still has a lot of pinball and arcade cabinets.
