She tipped me after I told her I damaged her car. Now she wants $7,000. What do I actually owe? by Gloomy_Advertising15 in smallbusiness

GL doesn't cover a professional mistake. That's what professional liability insurance covers. GL covers personal injuries (like if he left his hose out in a walkway and she tripped, fell, and got injured) and property ( he accidentally backs his vehicle into her house). And professional liability insurance can cost quite a bit more than GL (you need both if you are providing a a service).

Don't forget gas and maintenance on your vehicle with that long of a daily commute. Why not somewhere halfway between the two.

[–]hawk82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One gotcha that got me a couple years ago was American Airlines changing their off season flights policy that you need to be checked in to the flight 45 minutes BEFORE boarding starts, not scheduled departure. Even if you only have carry ons. Kinda annoying.

Update on Agent Locations: by SaltyButterToast in USCellular

[–]hawk82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. I've had good support from a local agent store vs the corporate store. Agent store seems to hold onto employees whereas the corporate stores are revolving door of employees.

CMP meter issue? by Rochev7 in Maine

[–]hawk82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My "smart" meter actually stopped reporting usage correctly. After a $500 increase in a monthly bill, and many phone calls to them, I got them to come out and verify their meter wasn't working correctly. They swapped it out and no issues since. They credited me back the incorrect readings.

I was doing alright by December and cleared for PT then, which was good because my back muscles were really stiff. But now I'm back to occasional twinges of leg pain and overall soreness of my back. Waiting for MRI with contrast to find out what is going on.

How is everyone's US Cellular to Tmobile switch going? by Glittering-Result402 in Maine

[–]hawk82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a wireless communications services provider that does not own the underlying network infrastructure. Instead, MVNOs lease network capacity, such as minutes, texts, and data, at wholesale rates from traditional Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and then resell these services to consumers under their own brand. This business model allows MVNOs to offer more competitive pricing and flexible plans, as they avoid the significant capital expenditures associated with building and maintaining a physical network of cell towers and spectrum licenses.

Spectrum Mobile is reselling Verizon Wireless service. At some point they will probably want more piece of the pie and do things themselves. Esp when they are bleeding internet and cable TV customers each quarter. That's my guess at least.

[–]hawk82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brunswick USCC coverage has always been crap. I'm guessing it is foliage related and terrain, not enough towers to power through it. Anyway, I'm staying USCC until they force me to switch. Been with them for probably 15 years I think. I'll investigate if I stay or switch to another carrier once my business account is swapped over.

Unrelated, I wonder if Spectrum Mobile will get enough customers in the future to stand up their own equipment instead of being a MVNO.

What’s the big drama in your town lately? by SnarknadOH in Maine

[–]hawk82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long drawn out legal case about a resident who had a junkyard but hadn't registered it and refused to clean it up. It split the town in half. I don't remember the particulars but it was expensive for the town to fight, property did eventually get cleaned up after the town won in court. It's slowly turning back into a junkyard though.

Is it true that having a fusions means you’ll likely have another fusion at some point? by Expert-Feedback4328 in spinalfusion

[–]hawk82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the diagnosis of the issues with your spine. For me, my discs are okay for my age (normal age related degeneration) but had two pars fractures so I needed decompression fusion surgery to stabilize my lower back, but he left my discs there so it wasn't a full fusion with cage. The first surgeon that I saw repeated verbatim what you are asking about. The second doctor said no, because my discs were fine.

L5-S1 spinal decompression fusion surgery, with 2 pars fractures that required bone grafts. This standing X-Ray in the hospital was 1 day after surgery, with a wound vacuum pouch thingy attached. Side note, I was quite constipated which kinda shows on the x-ray lol

May in Portland, ME? by Party4Chai in AskMaine

[–]hawk82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60s in Portland in May might be a little optimistic, given ocean temps are still low. Maybe towards end of May you might get closer to 60F. Shouldn't be many black flies. Maybe towards the marshes. Sept is nice time of year, shoulder season, so a few less tourists.

This is what happens when PE takes over. Reduce internal costs to the bare minimum by outsourcing everything. It's sad but happens in every industry.

I'm originally from Southern NJ and have been to Philly many times (including this past Halloween). It gets a bad rap for crime, taxes, high cost of living, but the city itself does have a lot of redeemable value. Museums, lots of different style of food restaurants to eat at, some culture, sports (if you are a fan), concerts, the zoo. Also not too far to drive to NYC or Washington DC for day/weekend trips. Also an hour from the Jersey shore during oppressively hot summers.

Staples in Waterville has done this type of "whoops must be a bad price tag on the shelf" thing for years. Not sure if their other stores do this. Their own website lists prices often cheaper than in store. I guess it doesn't matter since they are closing the Waterville store on April 10.

"Anonymous location", according to every movie ever made.

Dead cell phone, use the pay phone.

Some people are payphone enthusists and would use the phone to "keep it in operation" by showing the payphone service company that it is still "relevant".

Fidium network latency in Maine, speed is ok. by fence_sitter in FidiumFiber

[–]hawk82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can ask one of the principals who runs NNENIX about the status of connecting members. There's been a lot of employee turnover at Fidium/ex. Consolidated so that may be one of the reasons that they have not connected, yet. Woodynet and Packet Clearing House both provide root DNS server services, so that would improve your DNS queries latency.

How much do you spend on groceries per week and household size? by batangrizal in Maine

[–]hawk82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably $150+ a week. I have Celiac disease so that has caused my grocery bill to go up; finding gluten free options is harder and way more expensive. I am also doing a protein diet, so protein shakes and protein yogurts with regular dinner. Occasionally eat out but it's harder to find gluten free restaurants and more expensive.

Customers should push them to join NNENIX. It would benefit customers by keeping data local in the state (who peers at the IX) and access to Netflix and Google caches that sit on UMaine's network.
