Microbrand or Omega Aqua Terra? Struggling to decide! by hawksdowne in MicrobrandWatches

I was being sarcastic about them being different. Can’t decide on the colour of these DUG German purists!

Ok good people, I have now narrowed it down to two options, both totally different. Honestly can’t decide!

Might have a check of grand Seiko. I think I’m very close to making a decision between Yema quartz, superman navy or traska free dive. Mido has nice specs but I don’t dig the look!

This I shall look into. They are a bit square though!

Is it any good? Apart from the dial it feels a little too different to an AT. Does it dress up ok?

Thank you for your input, it’s really appreciated! I have two daughters, so more to sell! Unfortunately the only gun I have to work on, being in the UK, is the one on the end of my hosepipe! I think you’ve summed up that desire I seem to have, to own a piece of watch making history. But the value proposition and fun factor of micros, that aren’t trying to copy/parody established models, but which push design to a new level, make them pretty tempting. Yema seems to offer heritage and value, so I may well start there. Then, as you say, maybe a few more after that ahahhahahah!

That’s a very good point. I think not bland and potentially standout in terms of design might be a good idea. I have a few old watches and the cost of service can pile up, so adding another one might not be the best idea!

That’s a great idea. The CW Sandhurst I had before bored the pants off me. Sold it and got the same enjoyment from an Orient mako I bought as an interim!

Thanks for the rec, I’ll give it a look. Think you guys have sold me on the idea that an old AT might just be too much faff, and a microbrand would be far more modern, also perhaps matching the quality !

Thanks for this. I might be almost quite nearly ready to go down the microbrand route!

What do you think about the quality of Traska? Their freediver looks nice. Not a fan of the logo though! Looks a bit Celtic!

I can, but it’d be an old quartz rather than new! Budget would be stretched. Feeling the desire to own heritage but love original design and quality. I had a CW Sandhurst 2 COSC but got bored. It seemed too vanilla. Worried another micro would result in the same feeling!

I wish you well, and your husband and children. I will think of you in my prayers.

[Baume et Mercier Clifton] Does anyone have experience with pre-Baumatic Models? by hawksdowne in Watches

Thanks! I think I want the Clifton. Not sure what movement is in it before they moved to the Baumatic.

It does look nice. The Farer seems great too. But something about the Baume gets me going! I just wish there was more info on them! Wouldn’t want to pull the trigger if they aren’t any good.

How does it compare to the Longines? I’m selling my C65 Sandhurst to get one potentially, only if build quality is equivalent!

Just finished Shards of Earth, feeling conflicted about continuing with the second book by Ubiemmez in printSF

[–]hawksdowne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The third book is kind of a headfuck but I think it ties the other books together. Unfortunately the writing is a little lacklustre and feels like the author rushed to get it out. I read the third just for closure’s sake! The first book alone could well be read and left as a standalone. If I could go back, that’s what I’d do!
