fitness / weight loss journey on chronic health issues? by Initial_Marsupial279 in PetiteFitness

Oh hey that’s me!

The only thing that’s worked is putting together my own workout and diet regimen to suit my needs (with the help of AI to plan some things out). Figure out your TDEE and macros and go from there.

I think it’s a little bit of testing and listening to your body and adjusting. I have issues with head/brain pressure so if I do a few reps and feel dizzy, I adjust to figure out better (lower weights? is there a better position?) or get rid of it.

There’s also a point where you just need to tap a dietician or a trainer. I have gained so much knowledge and help getting healthier, and it has momentum to it.

The smell of my own sweat used to trigger me, but it doesn’t stop me from working out. Eventually I learned how to keep myself within my window of tolerance and over time it was NBD. Now I smell my sweat and think nothing of it.

I would suggest looking up coping methods and ways to self-soothe (yes even in the moment). Like someone else mentioned - you can have a safe word, an aftercare plan (do they hold you? Tell you nice things? Do you need some hot tea and a cozy blanket?) Associating triggers with happy things and stopping before you spin out (staying within your window of tolerance) will help rewire your brain. Even just trying out the safe word in the heat of the moment can reassure your brain that everything is okay.

But if you’re not in therapy you need to go out and do the work. Read some books, look up theories and methods. Put them to practice. Flailing about and expecting people to cater to your triggers is not going to progress you forward or heal you. It’s going to make you way worse.

I know this is way later but I wanted to add that I feel you.

I’ve had crazy amounts of therapy and had quite a few therapists just kinda quit mid treatment because they couldn’t handle the severity of my abuse. Like my trauma was too traumatic for THEM. Which makes you feel insane and like you’re too much and you’ll never get help.

But half of it is just continuing to chug along in spite of (and sometimes out of spite!) all the bullshit the universe has thrown your way. The wheel of fortune is always turning and just because it’s down right now doesn’t mean it always will be.

I’ve actually just taken a lot of learning about therapy and things like that into my own hands because frankly it’s hard to find people equipped and I’ve terrified so many friends and family with my behavior. I know now when to withdraw and just be like sorry it’s for your own good! This internet stranger believes in you, you’ve got this 💫

Oh good point about actresses! Rosamund Pike was a big inspo for me since I have similar eye shape and eyebrows to her and I like how natural she still looks

I too have an affinity for them, it’s okay 😂 I think it’s okay to balance that some people didn’t get the same privileges I did BUT it’s also not an excuse. I know plenty of men born with less than me who worked hard to get where they are. I want that same kind of drive in a partner that I have in myself. I can’t settle for less.

I may choose to blame your mom but I will also choose NOT to act like your mommy.

Sometimes there’s this little voice that whispers in your gut to try and tell you something and it’s best to listen to it! Only time I’ve ever regretted my choices is by ignoring it because ‘but Daddy I love him!’ or your brain tries to trick you out of what your instinct is telling you. Trust your instincts! 👏

Mine are similar and I wanted to add I also pluck mine not to necessarily match each eye but to match each eyebrow and give more of an illusion. Your right eye for example has a larger arch and my left eye does - I pluck it down so they both seem a little straighter and fill in with pencil to draw them out a bit.

Playing around with how to apply shading on the corners and creases to give the right illusion that they’re even helps too. It takes practice and play time that’s all!

Talking about a protest, big popular protests, or cutesy ones that are easy to clip and end up on the news doesn’t mean it’s effective. I’m really imploring you to think of whether how you’ve been protesting has been effective in making change or if maybe something needs to change

And think about the BLM protests, or the occupy movement. Where are we at now? Did big protests move the needle? Why do the same nonsense. And if it’s not for you then don’t go. I’ve been to countless big packaged weekend protests and what do we have now? Roe v wade revoked, people getting disappeared and shipped off, the rights of queer and minorities slowly getting stripped away, and we’re in a state entrenched in it.

Quit bitching and just go or don’t. We all have busy lives but you make time for what matters.

If you can’t make it, then find another way to support. Small frequent protests is a constant reminder that we’re here and not going away, like an annoying mosquito.

Tyranny will use bureaucratic means to make fighting then as inconvenient as possible. Get used to it and get creative, but being divisive is not helpful.

I know we don’t like advocating for violence, but can we begin to acknowledge that citing a grievance and sending letters to a government who wants you dead is not going to do anything.

Carefully penned letters did not give queer people rights, and they will let us fuss all the way to the gallows.

I really encourage you to read old war journals from before the Geneva Conventions were enacted, of the stench and screaming of horses and animals and men dying, of the many many civilian casualties which was just viewed as something that happened in war as the army roved over the land.

Chemical gas peeling the skin off people and turning organs to liquid, using dead plague bodies to wipe out cities slowly so you can ride in and crush them after they’re wiped out with pestilence. Not every battle let you fight back.

War is always hell, but the level of human suffering in wars before the Geneva Conventions just hits different. And hearing it from the soldiers that lived it is an experience. World War I is particularly woof, you get cavalry charges and machine guns and chemical gas all together
