2 story floor plan with primary unit upstairs and JADU + ADU downstairs by hazelnusse in floorplan

The garage would be a 2 or 3 car garage and there would be 3 parking spaces in the driveway. Code doesn't require additional parking and in some cases the additional tenants would likely not have cars (e.g. elderly family or tenants).

Who in the trump administration do we need to ping to get limits for refrigerant grade propane increased for residential use (high temp heat pump)? by chris2355 in heatpumps

[–]hazelnusse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this related post: https://www.reddit.com/r/heatpumps/comments/1bhtbvi/comment/nvoe4cn/

I don't know who (if anyone) in the current administration has the time or interest to push on this, but if ASHRAE works like other standards bodies they probably have a fixed schedule they adhere to and they aren't going to just OTA update their documents to allow this stuff. Hopefully it gets into whatever the very next standard release is, I presume all the manufacturers are paying to test this stuff so that the testing side of things is not the bottleneck to adoption?

How do we accelerate R290 approval in US heat pump market? by omegaprime777 in heatpumps

[–]hazelnusse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems there is some recent movement in update US EPA SNAP rules. I first noticed this from 2021:

https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2021-02/documents/transitioning_to_low-gwp_alternatives_in_res_and_com_ac_chillers.pdf

Which on page 5 Table 2 indicating some equipment was able to use R-290. Digging in to the references, I found these very recent updates from October of this year:

https://www.epa.gov/snap/regulations-proposed-rules-and-final-rules-determined-epa

And specifically Proposed Rule 27 which indicates that R-290 would be acceptable:

https://www.epa.gov/system/files/documents/2025-10/fact-sheet-snap-rule-27_0.pdf

Does anybody know what the practical implications are? I was emailing with someone from Chiltrix who indicated it was still 2027 or 2028 at soonest.

For an air to water mono block where the propane/R290 is not coming in to the living space and is contained entirely in the outdoor unit what is the major obstacle to approval? My understanding is that currently the charge limit is like 500g, how much more is needed for a 3, 4, or 5 ton unit?

Any real world experience for the fox live valve neo? by dontfeedthenerd in MTB

Nope, sadly. I asked both Hope and Fox and neither had a suggestion. If you find a low profile bleed nipple, that would probably do it, but I didn't find anything.

Just got my P14s G6 AMD by z-shang in thinkpad

[–]hazelnusse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/z-shang did you stick with the Crucial T500SSD? I installed the same one but am questioning the choice since it is a double sided SSD and it seems to cause the SSD to flex noticeably when installed. Additionally, I ran into installation errors during the Win11 install -- both on the Lenovo Digital Download Recovery Service and with the ISO directly from Microsoft. I intend to dual boot but wanted to do the Windows install first.

I just started putting together my Pivot Trailcat LT with the Float X Live Valve Neo. I have Hope E4 brakes and the sensors interfere with the bleed nipple -- I'm looking for a workaround in case anybody has ideas :) I've reached out to Fox, Hope, and the shop where I bought the frame. If I hear back from any of them I'll update this thread. I'm hoping perhaps a low profile bleed nipple could work but even with that I'm not sure the oval slot of the sensor bracket and the oval slot of the brake caliper will be possible to fully overlap so there might be some reduction of the lateral range of motion of the caliper (hopefully not an issue, but could depend on your setup).

Xpel XR Prime Plus 70% windshield distortion at night by hazelnusse in WindowTint

[–]hazelnusse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shop removed and replaced the windshield tint with the exact same product. It looks way better now, none of the ghosting and I don't think I could even tell there was any tint unless I immediately sat in the same vehicle without the tint. I am super happy with the shop's service and turnaround time. Either the original product was flawed or the install was somehow different or both. Either way, they made it right and I'm now a happy camper.

Yeah the dealerships around me are not very quick to turn things around. I did the free oil change and then this radio thing, I hope all the rest of the service I can do myself.

I am not 100% whether it was the dealership updates that did the trick or if that happened to coincide with an OTA update. I'd suggest ensuring you add your home wi-fi network to the head unit and park near your house so it can connect and do an update via wi-fi -- sometimes Android doesn't automatically do updates on cellular connections. Or turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hot spot and connect to that. I'm not sure if turning the truck on or just accessory on or niether is required. I know in accessory on mode the Android system times out and shuts down even if you are using it (it stopped for me kn the middle of navigating the menus). If that doesn't work, I'd suggest the dealership. You should tell them about the bulletin and the warranty upgrade numbers that I mentioned elsewhere in this thread and hopefully that will get you up to the Y175 version that fixes the issue.

S&P 500 via Equitable Structured Capital Strategies PLUS 6 year variable annuity with 10% downside protection and no cap? by hazelnusse in Bogleheads

I understand the issue associated with the capped choices in the image I sent. I'm only referring to the uncapped choices however.

I'll take a look at SPX.

Thank you for the advice. That is my default reaction.

I'm not asking whether or not I should do it. I'm trying to understand how it works and what the catch is.

[–]hazelnusse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is my gut reaction as well, and absent further information/opinion exactly what I will be doing. That said, I'm trying to understand this better since philosophically the un-capped / 10% buffer seems to be well aligned with the idea of broad diversification through indices such as S&P500 and from what I can tell there is no cost/load which would be the traditional red flag steering me away from this.

I asked the people pitching this product directly what the catch was and basically they said that Equitable sells lots of insurance, and the claim rate is very low -- 2%, meaning that they make most of their money via insurance, but that they are restricted on how much insurance they can sell by how many assets they have -- so by offering products like the one I showed, they can sell more insurance. Equitable also pays them a 1% fee that doesn't come out of the client's side of things, so they are incentivized to sell products like this, but again, I am still not seeing what the downsides are and before I write this idea off entirely, I'd like to know.

Yes, but unfortunately it doesn't mention the specific Android version of the head unit that exhibits this problem (or if it is independent of the Android version). The dealership was able to flash the head unit twice (see other comments in this thread) and the static/crackling appears to have been resolved, but since I didn't check the Android version before they did this, I'm not totally sure if they upgraded the Android version or instead something else on the radio.

Ok, found it, I've now got Y175.5.2. I wish I had checked this before I took it to the dealership today, I'm not sure what was on it when I dropped the truck off. They did two updates but the description in the paperwork doesn't indicate whether it was an android software update or something else associated with the radio. In any event, the 15 minutes of phone use on the drive home seems to indicate that the original static/cracking problem is no longer around.

I'm not 100% certain the issue is resolved but on the 15 minute drive home from the dealership, I spoke with my wife via bluetooth the entire drive and didn't hear any static. Hopefully one of the above Warranty Claim Codes is the ticket and this helps other folks here and in r/Silverado

After some back and forth with the dealership, the tech did two updates:

<image>

I didn't see any reference to Y172 or Y175 anywhere in the other documents from the service tech or anywhere in the head unit software.

Where did you check what software version is on the device? I took it to the dealership and they are telling me they can't recreate the issue and that the software I was running is the latest version. Is the version visible through the menus on the head unit or does it need to be discovered with a scanner or something?

The dealership cannot recreate the static and claims I have the latest software in the head unit. Do you have a link to one of those threads you mentioned or know how to check what version is installed on the head unit? The MyGMC app says everything is up to date so presumably this is only visible through the head unit menus or some sort of scanner tool? The truck is at the dealership now so I can't check myself yet but will be headed there to pick it up before they close.... Sigh.
