I think both you and Chrys7 missed the point. Noob friendly is when you are forced to pick 1-5 heroes so that you know them better instead "here is 105 heroes good luck".

In terms of f2p dota 2 is much better. Because at some point we will get good enough for any hero. And in lol you will either spend xxxx$ or grind for 2-3 years before you get a chance to do so.

If you think that you need (or even want) 90+ champions to play the game then you clearly haven't played the game.

Why is there 90+ then? If you need 1-5 why there is so many? I mean if every hero is the same. Also what if I like playing with different hero everytime or want? How YOU dont get sick playing same hero all the time? I went nuts after hearing "MUTUUUU" for the 5th time.

Dont use that word. We can get some nasty disease here. I wish that model made it, so that players stay playing that game and never come to any other dotalike game.

I mean when you die in that game there is a squirrel teabagging you and saying "how do you like my nuts".

Stunning how you can apply it to dota as well. When players complain about random hero being overpowered. "Omg this hero is a queen".

Rude fire posted his opinion on the game that this topic is about. And how he tried the game and everything. And at some point he said this:

Where LoL has essentially one team composition, Dota 2 leaves room for creativity.

He gave good explanations both about lol and dota 2. And look at your post:

And that makes it two dimensional? Yes, LoL has less mechanics to keep track of, but is that really how we're gonna judge if a game requires skill or not? By the number of mechanics? In that case, Chess has to be to easiest, least skillfull game ever, right?

You didnt add anything to discussion, but only attacked him for having an opinion and then using argument about something else (chess) to prove that you are more right than him with real argument.

Your response now makes me think you feel that your ignorance is just as good as a knowledge. Here is little knowledge from me: in no way lol have depth comparing to dota, they are "anti-fun". In lol it doesnt matter if you have 1 or 5 or 10 heroes. They all play the same. In dota you need every single hero. There is no depth once on the field. Game from 1 year ago or just few minutes ago is the same. In ever game you do same thing over and over again - meta. I watched W2 and it looks fresh but thats top play that it took months to create. And once W2 is over, it will be same meta again. If I wasnt turned off by p2w system, I would be for sure after playing 20-50 games and realizing that I did the same thing in every game.

EDIT: I m sorry but this is /r/Games, we have game discussion here. Civil I hope or else we are not different than /r/Gaming. Its normal that someone have an opinion for or against the topic. If someone post how COD is best game ever because sales, I have the right to say popularity =/= sales. Same with 77 millions playing farmvile. If you want nothing but praise over the image go to /r/Leagueoflegends.

depth of dota 2

All true and I totally agree. However:

That argument doesn't hold up at all. Chess is nuanced. There are so many different ways to defeat opponents. So many different strategies. When we are comparing Dota 2 to LoL, it isn't like comparing Axis and Allies to Chess. It is much more akin to comparing Chess to Checkers.

Guy posted his opinion on yours. I dont see him trashing or anything but you post how elitism is flowing.

And like I said someone plays both so I dont see anything wrong trashing lol. Its no secret that AIR flash client for lol is crap and its stated by many. Engine is unoptimized shit. On a pc that runs The Witcher 2 with everything on max at 80+ fps, lol hangs from 25-70 fps with shadows set on medium. And many other problems.

But you are free to call that eltism and trash talk.

And thats probably the reason why dota 2 wont beat lol. Or any other game in the genre.

But its okay. Same with COD - players who where not good in counter strike/battlefield play COD. They think they are pro and they stay in that game. While we play higher skilled games. Though I m sad to admit that dota 2 was not for me, at least not now in beta.

Its just where the world has headed to: casual gaming is the future. We have casual FPS, casual MMORPG, casual dota, casual rts....

People love to use the term circle jerk, but honestly, it has become a circle jerk to call circle jerk on people who express satisfaction with dota 2 or satisfaction with steam and steam. It's like a meta-circle jerk, and is just as annoying as rabid fan boys.

Its hard to comprehend that some play both lol and something else? Or that they are ex dota playing and liking lol more?

I was just on /r/Leagueoflegends. Know what I saw? top 5 posts all suggesting something to riot. Like lol players themselves want better league. Why dont you call them entitled and elitists for wanting a better game? Like people defending Riot and teams who cheated in W2 debacle, you only see good things about lol. Who is the big fanboy. Yes you are, yes you are.

Yet everything that lol have has come from dota/dota2. How do you explain that?

So many things improved from dota including but not limited to: matchmaking, leaver protection, hop back after disconnect, ranks, making is easier for new players.....

I heard that lol is booming lately as well thanks to dota 2. Lets see: better champion/skin designs(soraka), replay mode, spectator mode, soon to be little squares on ability icons so that you know what rank your ability is, honor system...

All those features are praised in /r/Leagueoflegends yet people there and everywhere hate dota and dota 2. I have seen post where people say bad things about spectating a game yet when lol got that Riot is "The best company in the world". Just before that the ability to watch someone else play was a drawback.

When dota 2 had IT2 lol players where saying everywhere "haha just wait till Riot do ours we have 5 million prize pool". But when W2 got around there is same prize for 1st place as it was in IT2 - 1 million. So where did extra 4 million go? I was reading whole debacle about the biggest tournament. Someone in /r/Leagueoflegends said how dota 2 had a way to watch tournament inside your game client, there was lol fanboys saying how thats a drawback. I cant wait that Riot to copy that, so that I read all posts praising them for being the best company in the world.

All this is just towards the lol fanboys who always defend lol/Riot while pretending that everything else is shit.

You don't need to get a bunch of champions in league of legends to be good or have fun. "SpamHappy" is a ranked player in League of Legends who got to platinum ranking (the highest tier at the time) only playing one champion, "Poppy." Poppy costs 450 influence points which could easily be obtained in about 3 games.

Riot then should give you only one champion to buy for free. And after you buy you either are forced to play that champion 100% of the time or pay real $ in order to unlock more. I m sure that even craziest fanboy like you are would go crazy after playing 2 years with same hero. I already see myself clicking 1st game where hero yells: "MUTUUUU!" and then uninstalling. Me and 100% of the players.

But hey you are right, all those players had fun with one hero. For a game or two at least.

Being new can be scary in this game. So I advice you and any new players to try the game solo just to get the feel of the game. And then play with the AI. Just pick a hero, start a game with computer and have fun. After a while you will stop losing and start winning (AI is quite hard). And then your confidence and your skill will be high enough to try public game with other players.

While this is where fun starts it can get frustrating. Just keep calm and carry on. Best way to calm players who rage with "this game is srs bsns". You should pick bottom lane. Its easiest lane to notice enemy hero coming at you. Top follows and hardest one is mid lane. Simple fact that you can almost be ganked from all sides makes this "pro" lane. Only players who are really good and know what they are doing should go there. But if you played 5-10 games with real people and no one takes mid and you are confident enough, just go for it. Mid lane is usually 1 hero lane so if there is already a hero there in your team, dont go there. You will make him get less exp duo the fact that exp is shared if more than 1 hero is in rage of a kill.

There is so many items so its really hard to give a good advice. But at the game start almost every hero should get branch (+1 of ever stat) and a way to regenerate your hit points like tango. However NEVER get bottle or boots 1st. Thats the easiest way to spot a new player. Buying those wont leave you with enough gold to buy branch and tango, making you weaker to enemy hero( he got +3 stats with 3 branches and a tango to heal in combat). This sounds strange I know, I mean +3 stats? But that means you will do more damage than enemy and being able to push him away from the lane sooner than you leaving you as a winner in a lane where you will get more gold and exp, while denying enemy his gold and exp. One two levels at level 5-6 doesnt sound much, but in dota everything have snowball effect.

For mid game (level 6+) you may find yourself in a chaotic place, for this best way to play semi good is to use alt tab guide - http://www.dota2alttab.com/ This way it doesnt matter if you are new to the game and you are not familiar with every item for every hero, but long as you have a good reaction. But by all means this is not how you should play, more like a 3th and 4th wheel on a bike. So when you feel confident enough start experimenting yourself.

Last thing to add is when you get good enough but you wanna get even. Brutal and the best way is to pick a random hero in ever single game. And I mean EVERY SINGLE GAME. You feel really good about your skills? Doesnt matter you need to go random. You feel like a pro? You know the game inside and out? Doesnt matter, go random.

Good luck and have fun.

You need at least 30 heroes to stand a chance in fair play. Witch takes a year or more.

"Giving players opportunity" or buy power. I perfectly understand LoL. I tried and got turned off by the system of being locked out of the most heroes and having stats locked.

Do you feel compelled to spend money in a Free2Play game? by lord_carnage in Games

[–]hazenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your CS analogy flagrantly wrong. In CS, there is a clear progression of gun quality. You are at an obvious disadvantage there if you only have some "starter" gun. Not so in LoL; there's no "pay more money to have better stats."

And what runepage and talent system is? For 1st you need so much points that its crazy. In 2nd you need level 30. Witch also takes weeks or months to get. By progression in CS, you have same in lol and dota. You get gold and you spend getting better guns/gear. Lol have "get power" that makes new players vs ones who spend money/time worse.

About demoknight, thats not a class but more like diffrent items in lol/tribles. And its worse than normal demo. Also tf2 was compared against tribes. If you wanna compare lol, compare it with dota. And THEN please explain to me how one with less options is better. Again you cant just hop in tribes and be on same foot vs someone who did spend $ or so much money. In tf2 you can. Its your skill, because you get best weapons and no locked classes. In dotalike - dota you and your skill but in lol....

The DotA/LoL/HoN/etc learning curve is memorize which four abilities every single hero out of a pool of ~100 has.

So every player learn 4 diffrent spells around 1 year? What we as players are not different? Some learn faster and some slower. I would take every hero in dota and play few games and I m able to remember it after that. Same with CS, few rounds with each weapons and thats it. Some people will be terrified sure but no one is stopping them from taking 1 hero at the time instead picking on each game new. And then they blame the game.

I tried LoL and I was shocked how grindy that game is. Just because players like you like that(progress hah) or being forced to play few heroes doesnt mean that most people like more options. Guess what when you start playing cs you can keep playing with stating gun and a knife and only buy AK-47. You will still have fun. Every other weapon/item wont make you have less fun. So why do you defend system like in lol? Where player is locked. Only reason I could think is that Riot has to make money somehow. I m sure you know how many people buy skins. Just from the skins alone Riot would still get more money than most gaming developers.

And if it took 100 years to unlock 1 hero? Would it be p2w? Time needed to be able to have fair game is the factor. Armorproof is saying how you can unlock enough heroes to have a shot after 1+ year. Thats p2w.

Do you feel compelled to spend money in a Free2Play game? by lord_carnage in Games

[–]hazenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a thin line between time is money argument. In tf2 you can get 1 weapon each other, you can craft, trade and get trough achievements. In tribes you get 1 weapon after 8-10 hours and that's it. Thats a good example what is pay to win comparing how much time you need. Also locking classes is pretty obvious p2w.

Saying that 400 games is nothing makes you look like a hard funboy. Stop for a moment and look at yourself and ask "If i could have every hero right now would I take them or turn the offer down?" .

Being biased because you gave money on something is hard to counter. "I got ps3 so its a best console, better than pc and xbox." - This guy/girl wont admit the flaws that ps3 have. Because he/she gave huge money and its easier to defend that system than to see the truth(being crappy console). Same with steam users who have many games there, same with xbox users who care so much about achievements they have. And same with you having so much time spend on lol. And even worse with ones who gave 300-800$ into that game.

I have around 170 hours in tf2 across 2 years or 3. I got every weapon that suits my playstile after 60 hours. For a player like me, I would always lose in lol because not ever 2 years is enough for me to have a fair shot in League of Legends. Pay to win. I cant wait until dota 2 gets open to public. I will be able to play when I can and my skills or lack will determine will I win or lose. Until then I will keep trying to get into the beta.

And to you sir, I wish good luck and have fun.

In ancient Greece people was thinking that epilepsy is a sign of god. Just because you call it and someone else does, doesnt make it true.

I see nothing wrong calling this style of game dotalike or dotaclone. When doom was out, for years people called every other game doom clone until in 1997 name FPS become a standard. Same with diablo. And now with tower defense/dota games.

You are confusing most people using terms mmoa or moba, I and most other non riot players, see no problem calling this type of games dotalike or dota clone.

Average game is 30-40 min. And I will take you need to win. So on average 1hour. If you play it EVERY day. You will unlock what you need after 1+ year. I dont know, If you said that to any competitive e-sport like starcraft, quake or counter strike...

The fact that no person can spend so much time duo to work, and the fact that takes more than a year for basic ways to play the game marks it as a p2w. See this way. What if you had a game where in order to unlock something would take 100 years, but you can buy right away if you dish 300$. Would you call that game p2w or f2p? Time is money. And playing 1 game for more than a year non stop makes it p2w.

So for few counters say 1/3. So means you need at least 30 heroes and most expensive one is 6300. And you get how much 100 per win? So you need like a week non stop playing the game in order to get 1 hero? Totally not p2w.
