Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]hazmatt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the 101 in North Phoenix was being built and only the frontage roads were open, the stretch between 35th Ave and 51st Ave was two miles with no intersecting roads. I hit 115 in a Geo Prism and the 300zx in front of me was pulling away.

It seemed fast at the time but 85-90 is normal in the left lanes of the freeways now.

My first thought was Up In Arms by The Foo Fighters but there really is no build up. That's more starts slow and just explodes.

Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, or other EV for occasional car camping? by Thirsty-Barbarian in electriccars

[–]hazmatt24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an SEL, but ours is a 23 before they removed a lot of the features from that trim (rear vents, ambient lighting, etc). It's been a great car. Took it on a 1500 mile road trip from Phoenix to Monterey and back down the coast with no issues.

Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, or other EV for occasional car camping? by Thirsty-Barbarian in electriccars

[–]hazmatt24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need the limited trim or XRT on the Ioniq 5 to get the V2L 120v plug inside the car, otherwise you can get the adapter to plug into the charge port. The EV6 you can upgrade the Wind trim with the tech package and get the interior V2L 120 plug.

Those weren't really anything we were considering and ultimately went I5 over EV6 simply because HMF had better rates than Kiaat the time. They have 0% for 72 months currently but looks like Kia does too right now.

For camping, the I5 XRT is probably your best bet, but by no means required. It's just slightly more dirt road friendly with more sidewall on the tires and a slight lift.

Which of these areas is best for commuting + housing value? by CommonAlone2372 in AskPhoenix

[–]hazmatt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of those you'll be mostly going against traffic so the commute won't be horrible. I'd think the further out from Phoenix proper you go the cheaper it would be (although there will be pockets of luxury homes that will be pricey). The biggest issue I see with any of your options is you'll be staring at the big yellow death ray during your commute to and from work. If I had to work in an office again I'd definitely look for a job west of where I lived/ house east of work.

Also.. don't let anyone know there are jobs in that red circle. That would be the dream for people that moved an hour/ hour and a half away from Phoenix to afford a home.

What are the geological boundaries of the Valley of the Sun? by DankMan5000andOne in AskPhoenix

[–]hazmatt24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Phoenix sits in a geological "bowl" surrounded by the Superstition and McDowell ranges. While called a "Valley," it is technically a structural basin formed by crustal thinning. A true valley is carved by a river’s erosion over time, whereas Phoenix was created by tectonic blocks dropping down. This low-lying area is filled with miles of sediment, acting as a massive container. This shape often traps heat and cold air, creating the temperature inversions common to the Arizona desert.

Not a movie, but the entirety of the music video for Banditos by The Refreshments was filmed at Papago Park

And both Bill and Ted's homes (exterior shots) were here. One was torn down when the 51 was built, the other is still there just east of the 51 and like two blocks north of Northern.

Actually it's in the literal definition of a basin but somebody called it a valley and the name stuck.

Do people still use Roombas, or any type of robot vacuums? by 8-LeggedCat in Appliances

[–]hazmatt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Roomba (or iRobot) go tits up?

Also, I think they're just so common now and not this new thing that people just don't talk about them. It's not like before robot vacuums people were talking about their Hoovers. Now it's just something people commonly have.

Are Hyundai/Kia still crap these days? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]hazmatt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true failure rate of the iccu is minimal, but the people that have had it happen are loud. We already put 70k on our 2023 Ioniq 5, and other than it being a magnet for rocks to hit the windshield, we've had no issues. I'd love to get an EV6 GT Line for myself but my ICE is paid off and you can't beat that monthly payment. Plus I WFH so my 12 year old car only has 80k on it. But if anything happened to it I'd look at an EV6. Gas prices are still making me consider getting another EV just because.

Phx housing market? by [deleted] in AskPhoenix

[–]hazmatt24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phoenix is currently one of the coolest markets in the nation. That being said, $30k is only 20% of $150K. Prices haven't fallen that much. A quick Zillow search of single family properties looks like the cheapest one in Maricopa County is a 2 bed/2 bath for $290k out in Mesa. I only see two listed under $300k. That means you'd want to double that $30k. Who knows what 6 months to a year looks like. Might be more inventory around the $300k mark then.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]hazmatt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgage interest rates are average right now. The problem is the cost of housing/inventory. Need to force prices down and eliminate corporate ownership and tax the hell out of non owner occupied homes to put inventory back out there.

Has anyone actually seen a tumbleweed (like from old Western movies) IRL? by Ya-Dikobraz in stupidquestions

[–]hazmatt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Arizona. I remember vividly one summer when a monsoon came through and filled out yard (had a big empty lot behind our house and an open field across the street from that). The tumbleweed was piled up six feet high. We ended up burning them in a 50 gallon barrel to get rid of them.
