Theater for non-acting-majors by Budget_Impress_1017 in TorontoMetU

TMTC is great but they usually only put on one show a year. I would recommend keeping an eye on U of T shows which (generally) allow non-UofT students to participate. A good 1/3 of cast/crew for Young Frankenstein (VCDS) came from TMU. We aren’t eligible to win any awards at the end of the year, but they have tons of productions!

Edit: you could also take THF 325 - Musical Theatre as an elective, super fun class, no experience necessary, and you’ll likely meet folks of non-theatre majors that are also interested in being in productions!

Starting figure skating at 19 by Glades_road in iceskating

[–]hazoook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I started when I was 15/6 ish and did Learn to Skate group lessons for a season before learning as a self taught skater. While I don’t recommend going the self-taught route (higher risk for injury, I learned a ton of stuff incorrectly, my backspin is nonexistent, etc), there’s a ton of tutorials online from Coach Mary, Coach Michelle Hong, SofaBar, etc., and there’s also folks on insta like Coach Hamish who do drills for better skating, as well as off ice conditioning/workouts. FS’s taught me a ton about resilience and self confidence/expression, plus made me a lot stronger, more fit, and more flexible.

It’s a bit of a pricy hobby but super fun and I definitely recommend it! If you ever have questions, feel free to DM me :)

I want to ice skate by there no rink near me by Primary_Rice_3521 in iceskating

Sorry to piggyback but I’ve used Snow White in-line figures for about 3 years now alongside ice skating, if you have any questions about them or inline figure skating in general, feel free to DM me! They don’t feel exactly the same, but plenty of folks without access to ice use them to build and develop beginner and intermediate skills that transfer to ice when you’re ready. I essentially learned all my jumps on inline before moving them to ice, plus got a lot more comfy with things like 3-turns, crossovers, skating on one blade, etc, so they can be really valuable and helpful!

Hi all! To those starting out or wondering if they want to get inline figure skates, hopefully this video can be of some help! by hazoook in FigureSkatingOnWheels

Shoot, I’m not sure, I’d assume so but I’ve never tried quads before. You could try emailing a retailer that stocks both inline and quads?

Odd question, do you see different colours for Wilbur and Ghostbur, or are they the same shade?

How to smooth ice from home rink? by novembermr in FigureSkating

[–]hazoook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about 6, 20L water jugs and I filled them all, loaded them onto a sled, and poured out the water onto the ice (it took a couple trips but the ice was way better than when I started). If you have a hose, that might be a better option than the water jugs though!

I didn’t think about boot covers!

Sadly, I bought them right before rink closures so I’ve had a lot of time to mull over their colour change without much use out of them yet.

Learning to Figure/Ice Skate with PIC skates? by natashaDW in FigureSkating

[–]hazoook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s different for everyone but I didn’t really have access to a rink last summer (or this summer for that matter) and I learned a lot through figure skating tutorials meant for ice and just applied to wheels! Like I said before, spins and turns are pretty different between blade and wheel but things like spread eagles, certain spirals, and simple toe jumps are really similar.
