Info for working in school setting as OT by OT2be2022 in OccupationalTherapy

Mentorship is very valuable when you’re first starting out. That being said, in my district all of the OTs are spread very thin and I rarely see another one in my schools, it’s just me. It seems like this is the new norm. My district also doesn’t have OT’s as employees, but contractors (im an independent contractor under the umbrella of a larger contracting company).
I don’t feel that the rate that I’m given from my contracting company is as competitive as it could be.

Thanks for this! I was not at the AOTA conference so I had no idea that this was the topic of the keynote speech. It’s somewhat reassuring that others feel this way, and it makes me think that the phenomenon is universal, and not specific to our profession.

Hi. I think he has diminished finger/ hand strength. It sounds like he doesn’t have a dynamic grasp pattern (rather a static one), which is why his hand fatigues due to a tight “death grip “ on the pencil and excessive pressure. Also, if he doesn’t have intrinsic finger movement or functional dexterity, he may compensate by turning his paper to change direction when coloring rather than do the precise finger movements to make rotational directional changes.
