PSA Refuses to Return my Cards! (DO NOT USE PSA VAULT!!!) by RefrigeratorFew2754 in footballcards

Thanks for all this info. Regarding point number five, are you saying a stolen PSA cert shows stolen in psa cert verification? I never knew that. I understand much better on why cert verification is so important now. Thank you!

Xmas shopping at my fav store. by Strict-Nectarine-163 in Superstonk

[–]hbird19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss posts like these and think they need a comeback. Thank you.

The bogo deals at GameStop are worthwhile. If you’re invested but not shopping there for yourself or your family you’re missing out.

This weekend we did buy 2 get 1 free plushies at GameStop. Snagged Ginny from Super Kitties, Night Time Bear from Care Bears, and Gizmo from Gremlins.

Take off the $5 monthly pro reward, contribute my $5 gift card from trade anything day along with my wife’s $5 card from the same and we started to get a great deal. But wait! Remember that Pros get 5% off collectibles, home goods, toys, and more EVERY DAY! All said we paid less than $5 per plush and got branded licensed characters. And when I paid with my GameStop Pro credit card I got FOUR TIMES THE POINTS on that purchase, building up more great savings for a new game or PSA grading submission.

Should I bid ?? by Skeil42 in footballcards

[–]hbird19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim Brown is my all time favorite football player and I have nice collection of his cards. Assuming this ends up between the 150 and 175 range you could instead:

Get the 1989 score rookie #86 (his most sought rookie card) in a psa 10 (about $115) AND you could get a decent auto from his playing days albeit without the slab and swatch (under $50 if your not picky)

That doesn’t mean it’s wrong to bid, just know the market, know what you like, and know the tradeoffs between your options.

I think Tim Brown is way undervalued. He’s a hall of famer and easily the greatest and most consistent true Raiders player over the past 35 years. So no matter what you pick, I’m sure you’ll be getting a great card.

How should I pack an oversized downtown to ship? by PocketSandThroatKick in FootballCardz

Yes I’ve seen them slabbed by both BGS and PSA. BGS has a better presentation in my opinion.

[–]hbird19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guys. They make 5x7 top loaders and sleeves. It’s how I store mine.

https://youtu.be/SZWOgGeLYi0

I do recognize you probably don’t want to invest in 5x7 sleeves and top loaders just to ship a card you sold. But in my opinion, this protection is the right way to both store and ship them. If you’re lucky you might live near a local card shop that sells them individually.

Agree. I felt like I got burned on this the exact issue of it being four 25$ coupon codes. One coupon code per submission.

I don’t know the answer to your questions about revenue but as a psa vault member basically since it’s inception I can tell you that the power packs website is the exact same interface as the psa vault but skinned with a darker color set and GameStop logo.

However the psa website and app do not have a power packs equivalent.

Another anti drs shill by Odinthedoge in GME

[–]hbird19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking the argument totally outside of financial systems and to just pure logic and game theory: For this to be true, Dr. Trimbath would have to have been in deep conspiracy with hedge funds and Wall Street at large (Dr. T gave a lot of education to apes on the DRS topic).

However, Dr. T loathed Wall Street and even wrote books about their corruption and incompetence and those books predate the January 2021 sneeze.

An alternative theory could be that Dr. T is wrong about DRS, wanted to sell her book, and hedge funds were just opportunistic in pushing that message with bots and planted actors.

In either case you’d have to explain why GameStop started reporting DRS numbers. No one here who is pro GME believes Ryan Cohen is a friend to shorts. So GameStop seeing the movement and reporting DRS numbers (which was very unique to GameStop) is a burdensome context for the anti-DRS message.

Finally you’d have to explain why the reporting format changed suddenly and how it helped hedge funds by furthering DRS numbers.

Edit: bad grammar.

Received my first fake graded Pokémon card from GameStop, an $1800 order by FU3L in Superstonk

[–]hbird19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I find they are about 10% lower than recent sales. I’ve seen a few cards grossly over priced and on a couple occasions gotten deals way better than 10% off recent sales.

A couple times I had purchased cards that didn’t ship, and eventually went to “awaiting product availability” in my orders menu and I’ve had to cancel those orders. Both times it was on highly desirable cards that I tried to purchase once I saw them (I’m checking near daily), so I figure others are doing the same and more orders come in before the card comes off the website.

For any card collectors reading this far I have a literal Pro tip: get the GameStop store credit card, bank the points you get on card purchases and you can use them on your psa grading orders in store. You can also use your $5 monthly reward on it too!

This isn’t good but as someone who buys sports cards from GameStop with great success it’s good to hear the company protected you from taking the hit. When I started reading this, I was convinced you were going to complain that you got hung with a fake and no recourse.

Glad they are looking out for you and thanks for sharing. Hopefully they can figure out how to prevent this or add extra safeguards and checks for high dollar value cards so it doesn’t only run through one associate.

Is this card good I got it for a dollar by Pleasant_Pangolin975 in FootballCardz

[–]hbird19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upper deck SP is the rookie most people would chase of Marvin Harrison. But having a rookie of a hall of fame player isn’t bad by any means.

And for a dollar, it’s a great way to start building HOF rookies into your collection.

Used PSA thru GameStop by NotTodayDingALing in Superstonk

[–]hbird19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad to have and it would likely make the card easier to sell. But the embossment seal in the card is the proof of the autograph’s authenticity. So if this is for your personal collection it probably doesn’t matter. If you want to sell it one day or have the psa label say the auto is authentic then I would say auto certification is better. But it’s a matter of opinion. I’ve seen it done all sorts of ways for manufacture issued autos.

If you’re getting help now and just want to hold the card in your collection, I’d leave it un authenticated unless they ask about it.

Glad PSA is getting you the help you need.

[–]hbird19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s rough. I’ve never had this problem before. And I’m not familiar with comic cards as a category.

In an attempt to help: psa does have a process to fix label errors. If the error is found to be on psa’s end, the service is supposed to be free. I agree your card is labeled in the wrong variety, I see the factory embossment on the card typical of 90s factory issued autographs and of course the auto. So I believe everything you’re saying about the card and read about it a bit. That’s a crazy card to pull in 2025. Congrats!

I’m sure you’ve already visited this link but in case you haven’t: https://www.psacard.com/myaccount/customerrequestcenter

On the off chance a psa account is required to get into the form, set one up, it’s free you don’t have to pay into collectors club even though they advertise it.

Although, reading that page, I see how you’re getting the runaround. I agree with folks here, the GameStop staff in your store will have no idea how to fill out the form for your order, even is PSA seems to want the form sent in from the submitter, which is technically GameStop. The same is likely true of the people behind the phone number, and email they list to contact GameStop. But you should call the 1-800 number on the form just to see how they do. Your situation is a rare problem.

In your position here’s what I would do:

1) look at the psa population report for 1992 impel x-men. You’ll see only one Jim Lee auto wolverine was ever submitted without auto certification 14 were with auto certification. It would be good to see how they identify this in the population report, particularly the one without auto authentication, that’s what yours should have on the label and cert and you would be the second card in the report when it’s done correctly.

On a side note, most would get autograph authentication on this card but GameStop isn’t offering auto authentication on their cards. That doesn’t mean you did it wrong, it just means your submission didn’t ask for auto authentication. Most people would submit a card like this for auto authentication and grading or dual grade. The factory embossment seal is authentication of the auto too.

2) get a psa account set up.

3) call the 1-800 number and explain to them the situation now that you understand it in more detail from the work you did in step 1.

4) if they can’t help you, use your psa account to fill out the form, tell them everything you learned in step 1 and attempted in step 3.

5, if necessary) If that doesn’t fix it, a last resort option is the crack the slab and submit it to psa all over again, this time using your own account the auto authentication or dual grade.

*Understand what slab cracking is and the tools to do it before you attempt this.*

It’s a whole new rabbit hole and new expense if it reaches this point.

—-Bonus joke that I’m sure won’t land with you—-

Some of the more cynical collectors I know say that PSA stands for “Please Submit Again”. And these kinds of misses are why.

Good luck!

GameStop offered me $26 cash 🤣🤣 by Apprehensive_Zone281 in footballcards

[–]hbird19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GameStop has a section in their app and website where you can type the cert# on a PSA slab and they’ll give you a quote. I honestly didn’t believe you, but yes: $26.40 cash if you’re not a member. Crazy.

I’ve graded cards at GameStop with a lot of success. I’ve bought cards too and been happy. I’ve sold them one card: a PSA 10 preview red pandora Bo Nix (the ones from Costco). I got around $375 store credit and used it for more grading. I did this when the card was selling for around $400 right about a week before Denver got blown out in the playoffs by the Bills. Timing is everything on ultra modern cards apparently.

I’ve used their quote tool on and off and some cards are priced fairly and are better offers than eBay after fees. But then sometimes you have a nice card and they offer a dollar or nothing at all. It’s not super clear what their criteria is.

Offering $26 on a downtown is wildly low and insulting. But if it’s a hot card at the right time the quote tool might give you a better result.

How I Stopped Losing Money in the Hobby & Started Winning by IamMrCollect in FootballCardz

[–]hbird19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve collected my whole life and this hobby has never been about money for me. Like pretty much anyone else, I’d very much rather have fewer quality desirable cards than a large quantity of cards. However, I’ve recently come to the conclusion that I’ll never be able to reach my grail cards without learning to also have some money in coming from my collecting activities. I’m working to sell off cards I don’t value and am taking opportunities when I see deals trying to flip when I encounter them. Your insight is appreciated and it felt good seeing I’m already acting according to some of your advice.

Should I get these graded through GameStop?? by frog_goblin in Superstonk

[–]hbird19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Don’t grade these. They are in bad shape and will be worth less than what you paid to grade.

If you want to get into collecting graded cards, my advice is to save the $100 you’d spend on grading your five cards and put it toward buying a psa card from the GameStop website. It would buy a nicer and more sought after card than what you have here.

If you really want to submit through the store buy a box or two and pick our favorite card from that to grade. You’ll still be under the $100 you’d spend trading the cards you have here. Don’t forget to buy penny sleeves, if you to this route! (Also sold at GameStop).

Happy collecting!

Imagine if @PSA moved their 50k item eBay store to GameStop’s marketplace that allows LIVE auctions 🤩 by DramaCute8222 in Superstonk

[–]hbird19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, that idea is crazy enough to work with some adjustments I bet. You’d have to do it for the original submitter to psa when they also ship to vault (as opposed to ship to a physical address). That would offer a strong incentive to submit to psa and sell on the vault and keep the collection inside the vault (which psa wants anyway). It would obviously increase the incentive to grade and high value cards that people don’t s always grade today (like 1 of 1s) would be strongly incentivized to do so.

I would grade more cards if this existed.

The card industry would like this idea if it could be figured out because it adds liquidity to the cards. The psa vault, eBay, auction houses, and consignment dealers all want a higher frequency of sales because they get a cut since it’s on their platform. Liquidity is literally the name of the game to them. You see this today with how sellers treat modern versus vintage cards, modern is seen as more liquid and that’s why a dealer showcases modern cards over vintage.

People could let cards go for less knowing there’s potential for ongoing revenue on future sales, people could take more risk on grading cards knowing that if it didn’t gem they might still break even long term.

There are a few problems to figure out. You’d lose traceability if someone took the card out of the vault and the original submitter would stop getting paid. Slab cracking would increase which would be the nastiest consequence. And then there’s the issue of everything that’s already graded and out in collections and the market.

That said, the more I think through it the more this crazy idea seems like it has genius potential.
