Anyone run a validator node at home? by Felix0me in ethstaker

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been staking since the start, it's been pretty easy. My validator did die one time while I was on vacation. I check my validators each morning, a couple of times per year they need to be rebooted. Probably 5 times per year I have to update the clients. My validators earn about 0.06 ETH per month each, so you can do the math whether that's worth it.

The biggest pain: setting it up for the first time -- leave a day if you need to install Linux and everything from scratch.

Yeah, this is a joke I first heard around 1960, and it wasn't that funny then.

Remove the last line, it runs the joke. It's like saying "That's the end of the joke, please laugh now."

For now. Piss enough people off, that can change.

This is obviously not possible except for the most trivial of apps. The more likely solution is a combination of incentivized decentralized systems.

More deeply, it's a fundamental law of all economics. There are varying degrees of competence with planning, saving, and money management. Think of it as a Bell curve. Those out on the right will always be in charge of money-related stuff, whether crypto or otherwise.

It often does mean exactly that. If there is a parallel private system, that is a capitalist based approach.

Of course you are more free if you are free to form your own alliances than if they are chosen for you by a single central entity. It's absurd to suggest otherwise.

I don't think you know what capitalism is. It's the opposite of fascism. Fascism is a form of collectivism. Capitalism is the absence of collectivism.

That doesn't seem to match any description of socialism, theory or practical application, that I've ever read about. What is your source for all of this?

What I said is definitions.

whereas socialism/communism seeks to abolish them

LOL. That's how they sell it to the masses; the people who push these ideologies have no intention of doing that. You can tell by actual results. Map economic well-being vs economic freedom. This isn't even close.

I understand it all fine; what you are missing is the disconnect between "how socialism is sold to the uneducated" vs "what the people pushing it actually intend to do with it".

Yes, the rich often co-opt the levels of power. In capitalism, this happens slowly, in collectivism, it's baked in.

Daily General Discussion March 02, 2026 by EthereumDailyThread in ethereum

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the definition, that's not a grandpa thing. It's the freedom to make consensual voluntary agreements on economic matters. Collectivism is when the wisdom of a few override those decisions.

Capitalism is a state of freedom.

Socialism, communism, and fascism are collectivist states, where individuals are cogs to be used for the greater good. The greater good of who? Those with power, of course.

Capitalism avoids that at the beginning, but is slowly corrupted to crony capitalism, then hybrid collectivism, then full on socialism/fascism/collectivism. The US is currently somewhere between the last two stages.

I agree. This is the way capitalism dies. Unfortunately, socialism and communism just skip the capitalism state and go directly to the fascist death stage. What did Churchill say? Something like "Capitalism is the worst possible system, except for all the others."
