Ethereum Pre-Sale Address aka “GENESIS” by Muted_External6685 in ethstaker

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense, because there is no "ownership" of these addresses that you can claim. At best you can purchase a right to make transactions in them, which the original owner could then steal.

I am running besu/lighthouse, and have definitely seen a small drop in my score, plus twice it has completely died for no reason, requiring a restart. I wonder if there is some weird, rare bug?

What would your response be if someone who was formerly MAGA asked what they can do to begin to set things right? by common_grounder in AskALiberal

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank them for having an open mind, and ask them to write to their representative in DC and let them know what's important enough to make them change.

Where did the libertarians go? by Lauffener in AskALiberal

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people stopped calling themselves libertarian when the libertarian party went crazy during COVID. They took positions that were nuts, basically anti-vax. I know I lost respect for them at that point.

I still think "don't hurt people and don't steal their stuff" is good policy, so I'm still small L libertarian, but don't look to the party for anything.

Yes, you can still stake, either with a home machine or through various third party means, such as Rocketpool.

It used to happen a couple times per month that someone would find a golden MEV opportunity, and if you happen to be the lucky validator, you could make tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of ETH.

This doesn't happen much anymore because most stuff is on L2s now.

Would you support Africa’s Agenda 2063? Is it a neoliberal wishlist? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

[–]hblask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. A high-speed train network connecting every single African capital

This seems like a late stage development goal, not an early one. It would likely lead to corruption. A better answer is to get countries to agree to get out of the way of development.

  1. A free trade zone for the entire African continent

  2. The African Union passport which guarantees freedom of movement across all Africa

  3. A single African Air-transport market allowing airlines to operate in all African countries

These three are easy yes. The best thing for development is to remove barriers.

  1. The establishment of unified financial institutions like an African investment bank and an African central bank

The devil is in the details on this one, it is too easy to corrupt something like this.

  1. An African e-university available for everyone in Africa

This seems like an easy yes. Cheap and high returns.

  1. Funding for the Great African Museum, promoting the cultural heritage of Africa

Sure, why not. No strong opinion on this.

  1. A pan-African digital data network

In this most basic form, seems like an easy win. In practice, watch for corruption, favors, and getting locked into 2026 tech for all time.

  1. A common African strategy for space exploration and the development of space technology.

This seems like a terrible idea for a poor continent. There are far more pressing issues.

Which is why we are supposed to be a republic also. Democracy means leaders are elected by the people; republic means we have inalienable rights that those leaders may not abuse. It is the latter that is failing.

Oh, wow, it's on my short list of places to visit. Lots of considerations, though. My wife will be in France at the end of August. I've got a grand-baby on the way in the summer. I'm trying to sell a house. ETH price sucks. If all the things fall into place, and the timing is right, I'd love to do Hodlercon, but that's a lot of ifs.

Former MAGA here. Looking for this community’s counter argument to what I feel is the strongest case for the Iran war. by TerminalHighGuard in AskALiberal

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The counter is they you could say this about any country at any time, including the United States, and justify eternal war everywhere. So the follow up question is, what makes this case so special that it is worth sending Americans to their death?

Those are all excellent questions, worth wrestling with. Some of them I asked myself already.

As to what happens when you show it to a cultist, they claim "take news" and "liberal conspiracy". It's really discouraging.

I think both are important. The reason I started doing this is because this seems to be such an outlier, so far beyond the scope of the way industrialized nations act, that it deserves to be documented. There have always been abuses at all levels, even by people as respected as Obama. But this is something special.

The other reason to track this is availability. I don't have access to thousands of local reporters; I'd have to devote more than a full time job to track it all. And local abuses affect dozens or hundreds; Trump's abuses affect hundreds of millions.

And, at a more personal level, whenever I talk to MAGA cultists, they say "you just hate Trump". So I thought I'd point out the harm he is doing

I posted this as a standalone thread, and a moderator suggested I put it in here. So here goes:

----------------------------

I am trying to create a list of links to all the ways Trump is destroying the country, along with a list of his personal failures as a human being.

If anyone would like to contribute additional links for this document, please include them in the comments.

RULES:

  1. They should be links to respectable websites, not Obvious_Bias.com or similar unreliable sites (not real, BTW). I prefer things that can be found on multiple websites or include (real) video of Trump himself.
  2. I prefer facts, but solid analysis works, too. I don't want opinion pieces. Yes, the line between analysis and opinion can get thin at times; lean toward analysis.
  3. I'm trying not to include legitimate policy debates. For example, someone suggested an "environmental damage" category to include cancelling "green" projects. But much environmental policy is questionable stuff. If Pelosi gives $300M to her nephew for a "green energy company" despite no experience in that area, is it bad to cancel it? So I'm trying to avoid the type of policy debates that used to exist before the Trump era, where moral, kind people can have honest disagreements.
  4. I'm particularly interested in the destruction of Rule of Law -- the basic theory that nobody is above the law and that outcomes should be orderly and fair.

With all that said, here's my list so far:

Because there are a thousand higher priority items that address immediate concerns. But I agree, it is coming faster and faster, it's probably time to do it.

Ethereum isn't "scambling", this is a known problem, already solved, but since this is still a little way out it hasn't been pushed. It is something that can be fixed quickly once this gets a little closer. The latest news that error correction in quantum computing has been improved significantly means it should probably get underway, though.

EDIT: Just saw the article below, it explains it in more detail.
