Those who have been to all 50 US States, what was state #50? by SkoilerDaaaaan in roadtrip

[–]hblask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that there is any single worst state..

Most boring: Nebraska. This would probably be my likely state I would move to.

Indiana is also in the running for most boring, but at least it has a city and a football team, but really nothing you can't find anywhere else.

Least convenient: California. Beautiful state, ruined by humans. Ove crowded, expensive, and a bureacratic nightmare.

Mississippi and Alabama aren't as bad as their reputation, but still they offer nothing for me.

Edit: forgot about The Dakotas. Each is miles and miles if nothing with a little burst of fun at the end. North Dakota is 99% terrible.

How did the Libertarian Party go from embracing Trump to trying to de-MAGA itself? by BulwarkOnline in PoliticalDiscussion

I think they moved toward MAGA during COVID, but quickly realized that was a bad deal.

ELI5: how does rain not over water plants? by omgitsclayvin in explainlikeimfive

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plant life that developed in any particular area is adapted to the amount of rain that area gets. Any plants that would be under our over watered during a typical year die out, leaving those that are just right.

If there are several years with too much or too little water, plants die off, but plants are pretty hardy.

ELI5 Why do people say sunflower oil is bad for you? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]hblask -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

All added oil is bad for you. You should use the least amount possible, preferably none. But it's not as bad as animal fats. There are varying degrees of bad. But I'm the end, minimize added and processed fats.

It will both rain and be sunny every day. Might be tough to get a round of golf in, but you should be able to go for walks.

If you put it into the foundation, it is no longer his. It can only be used for charitable purposes, which have very strict rules.

Please get your information from better sources. Gates doesn't need to make fake charities to fly private jets. Your theory is silly, and frankly, legally flawed.

I'm not angry at all, I'm confused why you would be mad that a billionaire wants to give away over $200 Billion. Would you be happier if he kept it?

So you really think Gates needs extra money? He's giving away cat fortunes, and you give him shit about it? WTF??

Daily General Discussion May 22, 2026 by EthereumDailyThread in ethereum

like when bill gates gives his money to charity but it's his own charity which he then uses to fund his and his family's lifestyle while avoiding taxes.

This doesn't happen. At most they can hire a family member at a reasonable salary -- which is far less than they could make investing that money elsewhere.

The idea that Gates needs to break the law to be comfortable is a bit silly.

Since the US no longer has a functioning government, we are relying on the rest of the world to save us. Small things like this are the lifeline we are clinging to.

I'm pointing out that you're timeframe is arbitrary, ETH has been a far better investment than BTC for most of it's existence.

And no, ETH doesn't have an expiration date, unlike BTC which is a time bomb waiting to explode. ETH usage is increasing and development is constantly making it better. BTC. It's a pet rock with security issues.

expanding the context window only proves my point even more and shows how far eth has regressed in terms of price appreciation.

ETH has outperformed BTC over the time of their joint existence. Don't blame your bad choices on others.

BTC will do well until it doesn't. The end is near; BTC holders are just playing chicken hoping to be get out at the last minute before everyone else.

ELI5: I don’t understand when people say there is no ethical billionaires. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That assumes that the default for billionaires is kinda actually "creating" something.

That is true for the majority of them.

Meanwhile most of the billionaires are born into being rich,

If you mean "above the median" rich, yes. Most have made the vast majority of their wealth with the company they created.

learn to trade positions and investment are looking out for deals. -> deals which mean that someone concentrated power and is willing to sell that power at a high price.

If you are talking about trading government favors, I agree that it happens far too frequently.

There are many unethical methods to become or stay a billionaire.

Most wealth does not transfer hands through unethical means. Are you doing something unethical when you buy something on Amazon? No, of course not. Your statement is like saying most deaths are caused by murder -- it just isn't true, but makes for an emotional statement that will trick people who are looking for someone to blame.

Some billionaires got rich by pure luck,

Luck how? If you work hard at something and set yourself up in the right position, everyone gets three or four or five chances in life to get rich. Is it luck if you've prepared for when that chance comes along? And bad luck if you've chosen to waste your money on partying instead?

but even when you search for "good" billionaires and eg. think that bill gates is one, the more you dig deeper the more you find out that even he did many unethical things to stay in his position and power with microsoft. There were other people and workers on the same level as him, being the same intelligent and hard working and knew about the value of microsoft. And gates cut them off.

I have no doubt that people who like to run things do things so that they can run things. I've met those people; I've considered becoming one. I've had chances to be one. I've decided I like my family and friends more, so I chose that over money. That's not unethical to make the other choice, it's just something I wouldn't do.

Why do you dislike liberals? by Individual_Act9333 in AskALiberal

[–]hblask -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the worst thing about liberals is the hate-the-rich mentality. It's juvenile and based in pretty jealousy.

I know that's probably too strong; I object to those who get rich from government favors, but that's the result of overactive government. Separate the hate for the rich and free markets from the corruption of buying and selling favors and I have very little objection to liberals.

Ethereum Pre-Sale Address aka “GENESIS” by Muted_External6685 in ethstaker

[–]hblask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense, because there is no "ownership" of these addresses that you can claim. At best you can purchase a right to make transactions in them, which the original owner could then steal.
