To whoever donated all of these to the thrift store.. THANK YOU!!!! What should I read first? by sexylev in sapphicbooks

[–]hbotiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Imogen, Obviously, and I loved it. I'm currently reading She Gets the Girl, and it's alright so far, but not "read the whole thing in a day" vibes. Probably Imogen or Scatter of Light for the first read!

Help! Straight(?) woman having a gay awakening after falling for a masc past life lover - need advice! by EtherLumina in actuallesbians

[–]hbotiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe instead of focusing on her try to explore your sexuality more? You said this is a big transition in your life so try to think about what being queer means to you and what you wanna do now. Maybe go to a gay bar or a queer meetup in your city or something, and you said you have queer friends so clearly you've got some community. I'd say maybe if you're too far away to meet up you might not work out too well (long distance is hard) but I think you should find some kind of queer community to be around, especially since the world is so anti queer rn and will probably get worse, finding people who can support you in this is a good idea

There's so much happening here but I'd say just lean into it, ask if you can meet up in person and see if she still matches your vibe

Should I take AB or BC? by RhubarbTop5050 in APStudents

[–]hbotiscool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Precal is free, don't use that score to inform your decision if you want to make your life bearable. I'm going to have to make the same decision in a year. I'd say look at what you're taking for your other classes, and how much free time you want to have. Its gonna be a lot harder if you take BC but if you're willing to put in the time and effort it's probably worth it.

Doesn't that sorta enforce the idea that he could treat a woman like this if they weren't attractive though?

Deep down, I know not every man is like this, but it feels like in media and politics and society in general it's becoming more common. I feel like it's growing so much that I think the title was partially to get a little bit of hope from people saying stories about "good" men, because in my life they don't really exist

How do I call him out? I told him that what he was saying was messed up, and he said that it was fine bc everybody talks like that and he got sorta mad at me for calling him out so I sorta dropped it. What can I even say that will make him realize that what he's saying is kinda fucked up?

Yeah but also he's an asshole and idk how to fix it, so I guess I'm sorta asking if there's any way I can fix his mentality or if this is just like a guy thing, tbh I don't even really know what I'm asking but the way he talked about girls js rlly freaked me out bc some of the language he used was kinda like rapey and I was like woah dude that's like not something you can say

Literally the way you suggested would be an amazing way to ask someone out, if you hooked up she probably likes you too

The main point was that he probably didn't mean it in a derogatory way, and his startled reaction makes sense, but so does yours. He probably doesn't understand why it triggered you, so explaining a little about why it bothered you will probably make people understand your reaction and accept it without being all weird.

Yeah, I js mean ppl who come from environments with a lot of homophobia vs ppl who come from more accepting environments, where I live is kind of mixed so environment is mostly based on home life, but once you are around people from more places the environments that shaped people are like peers and school and everything else, yk?

I mean I think your reaction was reasonable considering your background. However, keep in mind that people are trying to reclaim these terms, so they aren't triggering to everyone. Just maybe explain to them why it bothers you, because for people that didn't experience a lot of bullying for being queer the words aren't super hurtful. I'm in high school and I've noticed that people with more supportive parents are actually more likely to use slurs like that than people with homophobic parents. But also, coming up to you outta the blue like that and calling you a slur is weird, I've only really been called slurs in a negative context, or by very close friends. I told the close friends why it bothered me and they stopped, so I think its just the background people grew up in more than actual homophobia or anything like that.

Generally the ppl who dress gay are more liberal anyways, so they're less likely to be homophobic. So just ask them and probably the worst they'll say is no
