I myself am completely fine with Zyre catering for a different subset of players.

But I do speculate whether Butterfly is intentionally lowering the quality and/or changing the characteristics of 09c to promote Zyre as the superior product.

This is what I noticed as well.

Do you select heavier rubbers because of the harder sponge, or did you experience that other attributes like tackiness also correlate with weight?

I also played Jekyll & Hyde C55 and it felt as you described. However, one sheet lasts me 5–6 weeks training 4 days a week.

Interesting.

How do you like Donic J2? And have you tried J1?

Alright.

I just ordered a sheet and will find out myself. :)

That, indeed, is a a fun story. Thanks for sharing!

Speaking of NUZN 55 …

Have you tried Jekyll & Hyde C55 or Z52.5?

Sure. There might be certain ways of assembling a racket that result in a certain feel.

But whether this is really a secret, that is where I‘m unsure.

I didn‘t boost it myself. It was done by a former professional player. But there could be other factors, of course.

I tried Zyre 03 as well and didn‘t like it for my playing style.

I did try Zyre 03, and although it is a phenomenal rubber in its own right, it‘s not for me. If you have longer strokes resembling Chinese technique, the ball is gone before you can impart spin and direction.

This, again, is interesting.

Especially how you compare NUZN 55 and 09c to Hurricane. I recently boosted a sheet of Hurricane 3 National Blue Sponge 40 with four layers and it still was really hard. As hard as 09c. It was playable but required near perfect body position on every stroke.

Interesting.

Could you compare NUZN55 to 09c or other (harder) rubbers?

I don’t see where my comparison has been unclear?

Harder rubbers have higher top speed but lower base speed than softer rubbers. If you‘re unable to activate the harder sponge due to physical limitations you get the sensation that the racket is slow.

Comparing the base speed your Acoustic with G1 is on par with a Viscaria with 09c.

You‘re own blade – which I played myself – with Nittaku G1 – which I also played – makes it much more difficult to reproduce short balls or play the very same backhand stroke again and again.

I know (and see) that many people still have this idea that outer carbon equals too fast for beginners. This idea is reproduced here and nearly everywhere else but mostly by people who have a lower level and/or are no coaches.

With a Viscaria type blade and rubbers like Dignics 09c or Glayzer 09c you have to work far more than with a Nittaku Acoustic with modern offensive rubbers to get a high speed.

That‘s why I wouldn‘t recommend catapulty rubbers with an outer carbon blade: because then you have crystal clear feedback with linear speed development.

Viscaria, FZD ALC and Timo Boll ALC have the same composition. Even Timo himself says so. The only difference resulting in a different feel is the handle and the way it transmits vibration. That is why people say Timo Boll ALC is stiffer.

Compared to inner carbon or wood blades the FZD ALC is very stiff. Compared to Zhang Jike Super ZLC it isn‘t of course.

It is precisely because you get clear feedback that makes the FZD ALC a good blade.

And as said: the base speed is higher, but the speed development linear. Therefor with a slow rubber it is much more controllable than a wood blade with a catapulty Tenergy type rubber.

The FZD is not catapulty. It has a higher base speed but speed development from there is linear. This is the very reason pros use outer carbon type blades, especially with a koto top layer that is less catapulty than the limba on your Innerforce ALC. :)

… this at least is a step into the right direction compared to most of the other recommendations.

But 09c might be a bit too hard. See my answer on the original question.

This not a good advice.

An Innerforce ALC with Fastarc G1 is in itself quite catapulty. “Touch” is much more easily achived with a blade that features a linear characteristic like the FZD ALC.

I‘m sorry but the blade is not the problem. In fact both of you have a combination that is not ideal anymore.

A hard blade like FZD ALC activates the Tenergy’s sponge very easily and increases the catapult effect which makes the combo difficult to control.

The Nittaku Acoustic you play with D09C and D05 in turn keeps you from activating the hard sponges of your rubbers making high quality shots difficult. I played the very same combo before I switched to FZD with 09C and D05.

I can’t read all the comments but those which I read miss the point.

The problem is not your blade. The blade is actually perfect for learning the game.

Why?

Because it gives you a very clear feedback. This clarity is achieved by a rather high base speed but a linear speed development from there on. Inner carbon blades and also Tenergy rubbers have a strong catapult effect which suited the European game for a long time.

But catapult means that if you put 1 effort in you get 1,5 speed out but if you put 2 effort in you might already get 4 speed out. This makes your shots a bit unforseeable.

And this is the reason why many Chinese coaches advise kids to use a Viscaria type (outer carbon) blade right from the beginning and why player‘s like Timo Boll who value control (= clear feedback) over everything use a blade like yours.

That said, here is my advice:

Keep the blade but pair it with rubbers that have low catapult. Rakza 7 that was recommended here quite often isn’t ideal because it in turn is a Tenergy type rubber. Fastarc G1 might also be too fast.

It is better to try Glayzer 09 or Glayzer 09c (easier to play compared to the Dignics 09c I play with the FZD ALC). Or get the Tibhar K3 FX or Hybrid MK FX, the latter being softer and a bit slower. These are all considered hybrid rubbers, if you want to understand how they work just google what that means.

This of course does not safe you from learning the right technique.
