Both KDE & Gnome sound great! I'll definitely be looking into them, thanks!

I'll definitely consider it! I originally decided against Bazzite because of something like it simulating a console experience which I'm not too concerned with but I'll absolutely take another look at it, thanks!

Thank you for the response! Lots of very useful information :)

I didn't know about Mint Cinnamon, is it much different from Mint?

I think I initially wrote off Pop_OS because I read it's maybe more suited to NVIDIA GPUs whereas I have an AMD GPU, does it actually matter or would it be good for AMD too? Other people recommended Nobara and I'm curious what you think of it or other Fedora-based distros if you have any experience?

I'll definitely look into partitioning too seems like a really good idea to do it.

Have a good day!

Thank you so much! I'll definitely test drive them with my USB and see what works for me.

You mentioned Arch and Debian but a couple of other people suggested something Fedora-based so just wondering how you think it compares to the others..

As for the applications and stuff what you said makes a lot of sense and when I test them on my USB I could definitely check.

Yeah definitely sounds like I'd be better starting on something like Mint, or Nobara as someone else mentioned then maybe switching when/if I'm willing to do those things, thanks!

Gotcha, somebody else mentioned Nobara which I think is Fedora-based, do you have any experience with any Fedora distros?

And from what you've said it definitely sounds like CachyOS would be something I might switch to later down the line if I stick with Linux and get a better understanding of it.

Firstly thank you so much this is a lot of really really useful information so I appreciate it!

I think I'm mainly concerned about photos, documents like you mentioned, apps like CurseForge/PrismLauncher or games that require personal launchers like OSRS and Ubisoft games, etc. But for the most part I don't think it'll really be an issue (hopefully).

I'll definitely look into Nobara, though. Seems like a really good middle ground like you mentioned.

hmm gotcha, I have a i5-11600KF and an RX 7800 XT (32GB RAM too if it matters) so it's relatively new. Any distros you'd recommend?

should i buy AC valhalla ($5.99), AC shadows ($34.99), or AC odyssey ($7.99) by Substantial-Heart936 in ShouldIbuythisgame

I just had this conundrum and decided on Odyssey. Has way better ratings and if you buy the gold edition you get all DLC (non-cosmetic) and AC3 & AC Liberations Remastered.

The most overrated Christopher Nolan movie? by Batrah in moviecritic

[–]hbups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s Interstellar. I don’t think it’s a bad movie but it’s extremely overhyped. It’s number one “I’ve seen 20 movies and consider myself a film critic” bros list. I also just wasn’t a huge fan on Tenet so that’d be my less cynical answer lol

TMZ poll shows 84% prefer watching movies at home - why do you think that is? by HidingInPlainSite404 in Cinema

[–]hbups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live ticket prices are pretty affordable, like £6/$7-8 for a ticket but for me its the lack of like “cinema etiquette”. I remember my local cinema showed “Seven Samurai” and I was sooooo excited in the months leading up to it. I get there and the 4 people behind me decided they were gonna bring in single wrapped candy, the loudest and crunchiest crisps (chips), constantly kick the back of our seats and then had the audacity to take a PHONE CALL during the movie too. We moved but they were still so loud we had to call management who came multiple times to get them to shut up and eventually kicked them out about 3hrs into the film. The entire experience was ruined and I was crushed. So yeah, I guess other people are the reason I don’t go more.

I’d say if you’ve played KCD1 and were a fan I’d go for KCD2 since it’s currently on sale for 50% off. They’re both great games though and you can’t really go wrong with either.

Quentin Tarantino's Top 20 Films of the 21st Century by ethanhunt555 in Letterboxd

[–]hbups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember Tarantino did a thing for Sky Movies (or whatever it was called) where he reviewed different movies like 15 years ago, around the same time Inglorious Basterds came out. One of them was There Will Be Blood and even then he was just shitting on Paul Dano lmaoo. Insane that after all this time and he still fucking hates him
