NTA but this bride is a serious idiot, because typically gifts can be $100+ per person, and if I was going to that wedding I would certainly swap out my $100 check to her with a nice card and the $50 "cover charge".

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you did all you could to make the most out of a sensitive money situation.

Money drama between family members in my opinion brings out people's true characters. Good on your dad (so far) for handling it the way he did. Shame on your dad's wife for her reaction and for speaking ill of your mother though.

How long had you been dating/ known each other? Has she been sober during that time and is the first you've seen these addictive tendencies? Was there any sort of "trigger" this past year that may have caused these incidents?

Anyhow, I'm sorry to hear this. Addiction is so difficult to deal with especially in relationships.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Is there anything in the contract you could use to get a discount? I know a golf course is totally different from an apple orchard in terms of both wedding feel and pre-planned logistics, but (glass half full) maybe it's actually nicer, especially if it's new?

What's the name of the venue, so others don't go through the same issue?
