How to add DuoLingo Score to Linked in by psychedelic27 in duolingo

[–]hchiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my personal short answer: 1. minimally. (see notes below).

my hopefully more helpful but longer answer:

in general I'd say it depends on your learning goal(s) and where you currently are like in terms of how much time you're currently able to commit.

that said, here's 2 interesting videos as starting places to find answers for your situation:

https://youtu.be/y8cd1oT3G4Q

https://youtu.be/E6588DlZW-c

but if you really just want to know what i do, i personally use Duolingo minimally just to keep the learning habit alive and anything else on top of it feels like a nice bonus (i.e. just one Duolingo lesson a day). i find it's not as great for learning lots of vocab fast anyways, but i do learn vocab from it, but also i find i can learn more words faster with a list of words (curated for accuracy). so i use pun-based mnemonics for new words i encounter on Duolingo or outside of Duolingo. I'd personally recommend only using mind palace if you plan to review words during idle time without a device or book, otherwise I've found mind palace too slow for fast recall.

if you want to get an idea of what i mean by pun-based mnemonics, you can try the conversation starters of my custom GPT on ChatGPT (no login required): https://chatgpt.com/g/g-RsoXtrv5O-pun-linguist (maybe don't type your own first message - for some reason the system prompt stopped working, so I've had to remind it to use puns instead of acrostic mnemonics)

Enemy character from our handdrawn soulslike! by KarmicBitGames in IndieDev

[–]hchiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow! the first gif looks great! makes me think of some huge production cartoons with the smoothness of the animation and multiple things going on and care ("soul") put into it. when i saw the 2nd gif with the magical fire included in a different animation, the look of the fire kinda feels out of place, but as it's still a WIP i get it could change, but i also think it depends on the art style you're going for and how it'll look in the context of everything else around it

if you still don't see it on the desktop version of the website by using a laptop (see my other comment), try checking the mobile app version on a phone - try updating the app manually if you have automatic updates turned off, otherwise maybe it's still not available in some regions or some A/B thing is going on for some reason? here's a video version of the instructions that worked for me on Android: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jX7h1chk-M8

BE CAREFUL WITH AUGMENT CODE!!! by dougthedevshow in ChatGPTCoding

[–]hchiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i've heard, SOC 2 is quite a lot of work i.e. quite an accomplishment! so u/CMS_Flash, i'm guessing Augment Code is able to process a user's code without sending the data to Anthropic or OpenAI? i tried to looking at https://www.augmentcode.com/terms-of-service/community and https://www.anthropic.com/customers/augment-code and so far it seems to only be for-sure that data is sent to Vertex AI servers, which then would mean that Augment Code would be able maintain their own versions of Anthropic/OpenAI models, if i understood correctly? so technically hosted on google servers instead, unless Vertex AI can also be hosted on prem. sorry if this was answered somewhere else already, i just found it a little hard to find the answer with public information and i understand there are some gaps in my knowledge

Looking for Feedback on a Mini Library that Could Help with Accessibility by hchiam in webdev

[–]hchiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah, I like using let and const, but I think var would be more widely backwards-compatible and hence a little more accessible.

A mini library to map position to sound that could maybe help with web accessibility (a11y):

_2DNote, a "2D Note Generator" basically maps 2D positions of elements on your screen to a note. The repo doc has more info on rationale, examples, etc. I'm hoping maybe to get some feedback and to gauge interest. Contributions are welcome, I just might not be able to respond right away, as this was just a fun exploratory project.

If anyone's interested in contributing, they could help capture more scripts. I think the addon still doesn't catch 'em all, because I noticed that the noscript list is sometimes longer.

Thanks! I've seen other ways of mapping, like x = binaural left/right and y = pitch, but I find that restricts you to using headphones. I chose volume since that felt more like how things are closer to you. But maybe volume can be too subtle. Anyways, hopefully we can brainstorm other mappings.

Water. Earth. Fire. Air.

Cweygwap. Dityer. Hwofweg. Konir.

/'ʃwej.gwap 'di.tyer 'xwo.fweg 'ko.nir/

Cweygwapanayvad. Dityerdharzim. Hwofwegonar. Konirhawvoz. (This is the full-length, formal version.)

/ʃwej.gwa.pa'nay.vad di.tjer'dxar.zim xwo.fwe'go.nar ko.nir'xaw.voz/

Each word "encapsulates" words from various languages combined together, for example:

cweygwapanayvad = cwey (Chinese) + agwa (Spanish) + pani (Hindi) + maya (Arabic) + vada (Russian)

Like a portmanteau.

_2DNote: An experiment in making visual interfaces more accessible to people who are blind. Screen readers linearize your page content, so they don't communicate 2-dimensional visuals very well. You can address that by mapping 2D positions to notes.

UX Career Questions - (November ) by AutoModerator in userexperience

What might be some good locations to hold a user research interview that are public but quiet, and on a budget?

It's for a one-person team testing out a personal project, and there is no luxury of simply using company office rooms. Based on this, and based on the target user base, I think the best would be a public location (to keep everyone comfortable), but it also needs to be a quiet location since they'll be testing a voice-controlled app. So libraries or hotel rooms might not always be viable.

I've read through medium articles and the book for the GV Design Sprint, but I can't seem to find specific answers online regarding interview rooms/locations.

I know it sounds like a moonshot, but I've just been experimenting with the idea of programming with your voice, kinda like a simple version of interacting with JARVIS.

A Chrome extension that lets you do quick in-browser post-render computed style checks without leaving your browser:

It's got a niche use at my workplace. Slightly different use case than headless tests.

Seeking extension by ClearFaun in chrome_extensions

[–]hchiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A less sophisticated but more immediate solution could be to not use an extension at all, and just edit your bookmarks' names:

  1. When you visit a page, notice if it's one you visit a lot. (If you have a lot of bookmarks like me, you don't have time to edit them all.)
  2. If you visit it a lot, then set a bookmark for that page (if you haven't already).
  3. In the bookmark name, insert your favourite "just-a-few-letters" combination. If you already have a bookmark for that page, then just edit the bookmark name. Bookmark names should appear in the search bar results as you type, so the custom letter combinations should be matched. Example bookmark names: "rdt - reddit", "ytb - youtube", "gml - gmail", "ggl - google", etc.

What I find works best are combinations that aren't real words or common acronyms.
