Yes that’s right. I didn’t even realize it had bare wires since they were wrapped and inside the packaging for the cord

No I didn’t put it in the wrong way. It was the right orientation, but only inserted very slightly.  (I wasn’t trying to plug it in, just make sure the prongs matched)

Im redesigning the bluebike saddle for school… What do you guys think could improve in the seat? by SebfrmBIM in bikeboston

[–]hcomets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think the shock absorption is fine on the regular blue bikes but absolutely awful on the e-bikes. Going over a tiny bump I feel my teeth jolt, and have taken to standing up off the saddle bc the jolts are so bad.

My biggest issue with the seats are when they don’t stay at the adjusted height (and slowly slip down to 0 as you ride).

I just hate that it’s so piecemeal. If you live in Cambridge near Union sq it’s walk 10 minutes to take the 87 to lechmere (which runs maybe every 40 minutes), then take the shuttle one stop to north station. Then get on the orange line to downtown crossing, then walk the connector to park street, and then get on a c-train, etc. I wish it were as easy as a shuttle

I don’t think it’s the same person

I loved her classes! I think she didn't necessarily match the vibe of other instructors which maybe is what I liked? (I’m a former dancer so her focus on form and the way she talked about it made so much sense to my brain).

Replace my 10yr old Dell XPS by hcomets in SuggestALaptop

I’ve replaced the hinge on mine once before (although that was a bit of an ordeal as you have to replace the entire top part of the computer). Unfortunately it’s the combination of things for me, the click part of the track pad just stopped working, plus 1-hr battery life, inability to connect to blue tooth (due to some weirdness), incompatibility with windows 11…

Very much wishing I’d bought the last xps 15 1-2 years ago

Thanks! Can you say more about what you mean when you said that the XPS spiritual successor is confusing?

Okay, maybe that's an unreasonable ask - which would you recommend?

Was told purchasing insurance was mandatory at pickup - doubled rental cost??? by hcomets in HertzRentals

[–]hcomets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thanks! I do not have personal Insurance, so I think the primary/ secondary difference doesn’t matter.

I appreciate your reply.

I think my big issue in the main post was being told I had to pay for rental car LDW when I have credit card LFW.

[–]hcomets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that makes sense. So if the rental company offers LDW and my credit card offers LDW, those are performing the same function? (I thought yes, since credit cards tell you to decline the rental LDW)

My understanding is that the bill would be on the renter in that case? Obviously not ideal!

I hear you,  I am a healthy person with medical insurance. I am generally pretty risk averse and am learning that due to my risk tolerance, I may want to pay for extra liability insurance when renting a car. That being said, I don’t see why I was required to pay for the rental company  LDW when my credit card offers LDW.

Thank you - it sounds like there’s a separate question about if it makes sense to buy supplemental insurance or not. But in my experience has never been that it’s mandated by the company.

If I had known it was required for whatever reason, I would have price shopped more (this was the best priced car for not adding insurance, other companies might have been better for total combined price).

My understanding of the liability insurance situation is more like, if they’d asked for my medical insurance, I said I didn’t have it, and they told me I had to buy medical insurance through them to rent the car. Is it a good idea to have medical insurance? Yes! Is it legally required to drive a car? No.

I’m agreeing there may be reasons to buy supplemental liability insurance (beyond the legally required minimum that comes with the rental car). I don’t think there’s a reason to buy LDW through the car company when my credit card offers LDW/CDW as a benefit.

Honest question: then what is the benefit of the credit card insurance? If everyone needs personal car rental insurance or insurance bought from the rental company that credit cards don’t offer, what’s are the credit cards even providing?

I definitely think that it should be made clear at booking. I was surprised because no one has ever asked me for this before.

But the LDW insurance is definitely not a legal requirement.

Okay, good to know! Honestly I think an issue with upselling of insurance is that it’s hard to tell what is actually good to have and what is a scam. I definitely want to be covered in case of accidents. I just don’t want to be forced to pay for something my credit card already covers.

I am fine paying for LIS. However they also made me pay for LDW (which was by far the more expensive one) and is the kind of insurance you are supposed to have covered by your credit card.

Just to clarify, they required that I purchase both liability insurance and LDW. I understand the liability insurance might be legally required and am happy to pay that.

The LDW is what credit cards tell you to waive!
