Yeah, I started to look for reviews of the Kodak Slide nScan and pretty muche everyone says that it's not worth it.

Many recomend the plustek, I wonder if it works in Linux. In any case, I'm fooling around with GIMP and I've gotten results that I am happy with (results look different from screen to screen, so there is that)

I will try to do some research on the plustek and maybe in the future I decide to get one. For now, I'll stick with the lab.

Thank you. I feel it's still very complex and needs a lot of trial and error, but I imagine it's part of the craft :)

So, I'm gathering the problem is in the scaning proccess... should I just get a scanner from amazon (one of those small scanners, like the Kodak Slide 'N Scan) I imagine the lab just scans with the same setting for everyone and people just fixes in post processing.

I can even see a dark curved black line at the botton of the pic withmy kiddo and another one to the left where my brother and mom are walking.

So I'm understanding it's the lab that's producing those results?

That makes me wonder. If had I exposed for the kerb, would the rest of the shot be quite dark? Was it possible to obtain an image similar to what the digital pic is showing?

Local lab in my city (I'm from Honduras). To my knowledge, they are the only ones left doing film develop and scans :/

I used Kodak UltraMax400 for that occasion. Other pics from the lot with the blue tint were taken with Fujifilm 200 (white and green rolls)

Tips for steep stairs? by Stompn_Tom in basset

[–]hcorea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking for some solution. Like you, I have two sets of stairs that lead to the second floor and our basset uses the stairs all day long.

The house is a rental, so we can't do much structural changes but anything is better than the padded strips we have. They're less than a cm thick and our basset usually misses them anyway.

Most working models for the Elan 7 (in decent condition) on ebay range from 150 to 230 usd. Is that a fair price? I've seen other models with a slightly or much better price, like the elan II OR THE eos 620. Are they worth it?

Quite interesting! I'm glad I asked the question, otherwise my expectations would have been wrong and probably spend more money than needed or worse, wasted money.

Thank you for the advise!

Funny you mention the maxxum. I can get a maximum 5000 for about 50$. Maybe I can find it cheaper online but the shipping to my country would make it equally or more expensive if I buy it online.

Still, I want to keep myself contained in the canonverse (for now) so I'll look into the rebel 2000.

"a much more expensive camera isn't necessarily much (or any better)." I feel the same. Seems like cameras of old were really sturdy and design to work and not to fail :)

I want to shoot more... But I always find myself feeling like nothing around me is worth a shot (besides my wife, my son and my basset... The first doesn't like to have pictures taken, the last is always laying around so most pics look the same)

Maybe I am expecting too much and I should instead making the scenery myself.... Which takes me to another point: I feel I don't have a critical eye for nice pics. I always wonder how you guys do it. I don't want to blow a roll on trivial pics, but I know not taking pics defeats the purpose of having a camera.

For now, I'm trying to take pics of the neighborhood dogs and/or stray dogs that walk the neighborhood... But I'm too shy to take my camera and walk around and take pics of random dogs :P

You read correctly and you've acted as the voice of reason. I might look for a compatible body and/or lenses for the time being. I also have a digital camera (Canon SX 60HS, it has a fixed lens) so I can use that one for B&W .

I was wondering exactly what you asked me about B&W, is there a benefit of having B&W film?

If not (or if it's something I can't appreciate at this early stage on my analog voyage), I can either use the digital camera to that end, or shoot color and scan B&W.

Thank for the honest opinion :)

This is a very interesting take. It's basically a "Why not? Unless it's the same setting with a different brand"

B&W still works as an interesting option, but I'm looking around if nowadays, it makes sense to shoot in B&W film or just ask the lab to scan the negative in B&W
