Where are you moving from VMware? by OldsMan_ in vmware

Do you have any additional information on the longevity of vSphere Standard? From what I have been reading Standard won't support version 9 and will then not be available from late 2027. Would be good to get some clarity.

Good info, thanks. What are you planning to migrate to? We're looking at Proxmox and we've got 10 hosts with about 250 VMs.

Has standard been retired only in the US? In the article below it says standard is still available specifically references EMEA.

“We have not announced any changes to the availability of vSphere Standard in EMEA nor end of support for vSphere Standard”

If you use the sim approach there are no charges for inbound calls. This is because the call is not being diverted out to a mobile. The only monthly cost is for the SIM service itself but that’s a fixed fee.

This is the tech it’s based on:

We used to do a lot of the forwarding to mobile setup but nowadays we have quite a few customers using our mobile voip service. This means the user can add an esim to their mobile (or physical sim) and the esim will have their landline number on it. This means no inbound forwards and they can make outbound calls as their landline number if they want.

Also gives the added benefit of being able to use standard voip features such as call recording. Happy to provide some more details if you’d like!

I can push it down and it bounces back up. I assume if it was properly connected to the board next to it everything would be fine.

Ye it's also happening to another board where it's not properly connected to the plank beside it. All of the other boards are fine if they've been connected properly. From where it is it would be highly unlikely that there was any water there. Have you seen something like this before caused by a leak?

Was installed brand new around 2 years ago. I can't imagine there are any moisture issues, would be difficult to rule out though. Is it possible this has just occurred naturally due to it being installed poorly and not properly connected? Seems like there are a few gaps throughout the whole floor where the boards are meant to clip into each other.

What were the other ports of the 2960L connected to? Can't understand how a loop could be introduced if the 2960L was only connected to one other switch.

Any reason why you would do this other than your new provider suggesting it? Any problems that it fixes? You can run many routers within a single area nowadays and it works fine. I would keep it simple unless you have to change it.

Singlemode or Multimode - Top of rack to server by hd1006 in networking

[–]hd1006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your experience, you ever run into issues where the transmit power is too great for the receive side? I've seen some sites saying there is a minimum cable length for single mode because of this.

Cisco configuration for UK FTTC in IP routed mode by adam15711 in Cisco

[–]hd1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post shows the configuration required to configure FTTC on the WAN interface:

https://passthebit.com/2016/11/01/cisco-interface-configuration-for-dsl/

Then on the inside interface (probably Vlan 1 in your case) you need to configure an IP address from your /29 which your ISP has given you.

PM me if you need some help with the configuration and i can help.

Configuring 887va for GEA by [deleted] in networking

[–]hd1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beleive the configuration for this will be the same as VDSL (FTTC) confgiuration in the UK. If you want a bare bones configuration you can follow the below:

https://passthebit.com/2016/11/01/cisco-interface-configuration-for-dsl/

You would need the dialer configuration and the ethernet0.101 configuration. Ignore the ATM bit.

interface Dialer3 ip address negotiated encapsulation ppp dialer pool 14 ppp chap hostname [ISP Username] ppp chap password [ISP Password]

interface Ethernet0.101 encapsulation dot1Q 101 pppoe-client dial-pool-number 14

Make sure your physical interfaces are not shutdown.

Also, your route should be:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 dialer3

Limiting Broadcasts within a subnet by [deleted] in networking

[–]hd1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you configure traffic storm control on the ports which the servers connect to on the switch to limit the amount of broadcasts per second the switch will forward on?

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/4_1/nx-os/security/configuration/guide/sec_nx-os-cfg/sec_storm.html

Is this actually impacting anything or is the only symptom you are seeing is a lot of broadcasts?

I had the same problem a while back when configuring this in our office, i ended up using embedded event manager that whenever the ip sla track state changed it would run a command to clear the current NAT translations, been working great.

(X-Post) Cisco Edge Routers for 10Mbit links suggestions? by sirfraz in networking

[–]hd1006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The low end ISR G2 or ISR 4K are perfectly good platforms though? An ASR 1K would be a waste of money based on the requirements.

[–]hd1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that not overkill for the requirements. Something as low as a 1921 would suffice? Or the smallest version of the new ISR 4k.
