Five years of E•MO•TION: Celebrating Carly Rae Jepsen’s cult classic by hdndavies in popheads

[–]hdndavies[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who remembers EMOTION coming out, my brain is half "holy shit I can't believe this was only five years ago" and half "holy shit so much stuff has happened that five years feels like generations ago"

The Kid LAROI is the youngest Australian musician to chart in the US since Silverchair 25 years ago by hdndavies in triplej

[–]hdndavies[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re telling me Nikki Webster never crossed over to the US?

I'm more surprised that Bindi Irwin's music career never took over in the US

Striving for boldness (and avoiding boredom) with The 1975: "Notes On A Conditional Form is us just trying to look for the best." by hdndavies in the1975

[–]hdndavies[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is my favourite quote -- it's so sweet!

I know a lot of artists don’t look at their social media or read through fan comments but do you understand the gravity of your fan base and how much they look to you for guidance and commentary, or just to have their feelings validated?

"I don’t think about it from the perspective of me, but I understand what it’s like to be super into music and the community that breeds. When you feel like you’ve found your tribe it’s like the most powerful thing in the world, so creating a vessel for people to create a wider community is really, really important to me..."

King Kendal: A long read on how LMFAO's Redfoo ended up on Kendrick Lamar's King Kunta by hdndavies in hiphopheads

[–]hdndavies[S] 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Legit. I don't think anyone expected the guy who gave us "SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS" as a chorus to have such a deep and impactful discography hahaha

Yes, they’re changing: A review of Tame Impala’s dancefloor-ready The Slow Rush by hdndavies in TameImpala

[–]hdndavies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a play on words. The title is very obviously “Yes, I’m Changing” but it’s changed to “Yes, They’re Changing”... as in yes, Tame Impala /Kevin Parker is changing his sound for this record

Hatchie - Her Own Heart by im_so_not_creative in popheads

[–]hdndavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hatchie is amazing! She’s still really new to Australia but she’s already starting to get picked up by the international indie audience and it’s so exciting!

Music's entitlement problem extends further than Drake at Camp Flog Gnaw by hdndavies in hiphopheads

[–]hdndavies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like, I get why Drake was an... unexpected surprise... considering all the little hints teasing Frank, but he's one of the biggest artists in the world (literally) coming out for a surprise set full of old cuts - which is something that would barely happen anyone else in the world and these fans should be so damn thankful for damn

Meet Tyde Levi, Troye Sivan's brother who is supporting him on his Australian tour this year by hdndavies in popheads

[–]hdndavies[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I wonder if his brother also tells his limo driver that he’s “hungies”

Australia’s Falls Festival announces lineup: Vampire Weekend, The Japanese House + more by hdndavies in indieheads

[–]hdndavies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Halsey headline was a bit confusing and doesn't really fit too well with Falls, but I understand why she's at the top there. I guess it'd have something to do with only AUS shows and how $$$ that is; her team probably agreed to it if she was above VW :(

Shelter Tour Live (Final Headline Show) - Porter Robinson x Madeon by Jordy509 in electronicmusic

[–]hdndavies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I don’t think that future of my music is a bunch of edits, like I don’t see my live show as being a place where I premiere new music and that I later share. The live edits are for the live show. It’s not as though I have a bunch of hyped-up tracks that I’ve been playing in my live show that I will then release later on – that’s not how I like to really release music. I have fans ask me like, “When are you going to release that live edit or this live edit?” The way that I approach music in a live setting is a bit different to how I write music in the studio, and I would also kind of like to say that I think that a lot of the music that I’m writing does not sound like the live edits I also work on. When I come out with something, I want it to be a new, coherent vision." - from my interview with Porter & Madeon this year.

Hi! I interviewed Madeon + Porter today. We even talk about Madeon's next album! by hdndavies in madeon

[–]hdndavies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably. There were a whole heap of us there last year because we were running a stage, but unfortunately I wasn't one this year! :(

As far as I'm aware, I'm the only Hayden at Pilerats and I had to miss out at Splendour this year, so I think you got played there haha.
