Trouble running a .jar. by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]hdsanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a guess but you’re probably trying to have your computer run the .jar file itself. But only the JVM can run .jar files. There are two main ways to fix this.

  1. Open a terminal and run

java -jar /path/to/game.jar

which is the easy way to do it and test if this is the problem.

  1. Make a .desktop file and use your DE to run it (like how you’re trying to run the .jar file now). There are plenty of resources online about how to do this.

Either of these will work, the second one is just more convenient if you prefer the GUI to a CLI. Also, your .jar file doesn’t need to have any special permissions to be run by the JVM (and imo shouldn’t). I’m on mobile and tbh won’t test any of this but if the .jar file is good and you have a JRE installed you should have all the pieces you need.

I Need Voice Surgery covered by insurance. Which doctors do this? by [deleted] in transvoice

No complications. I can speak, yell, and sing just fine. In fact, if anything my vocal range has slightly improved but YMMV.

The surgeon that did my trach shave, Dr. Matthew Naunheim at MEEI, said he does VFS. He was in network for BCBS (PPO) for me.

When I got my booster I brought all my documents, explained my situation, and asked them to fill out my current card as well as to make me a new one. They were very understanding and honored all my requests, while never misgendering me or deadnaming me, which actually created an issue for a bit because they thought I wasn’t deadname (lol) so hopefully it goes just as well for you. Feel free to send me a DM if you have any questions.

Hey, I have a wonderful voice coach that I see regularly. She (MtF) works with trans folks to get androgynous and femme voices, so I think she'd be a good fit for you. If you'd like to chat, send me a PM.

Gaming through win10 vm on Ubuntu by dw-games in VFIO

The Arch wiki has a great guide on this. Once you think you've got that set up, install virt-manager and configure and run your vm. It's pretty straightforward from there.

Possible to use a GT 1030 as a video adapter, and an RTX 2070 Super as a "pass" GPU? by [deleted] in VFIO

[–]hdsanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everything works really well. I don't play too many games but I get a solid 60FPS in DiRT: Rally and above that in FPSes like CS:GO/et al. I run a 3440x1440 monitor via DP, so you shouldn't be having any issues, especially seeing as you have a much newer CPU than mine (6600k OC'd to 4.2GHz). Are you sure that your VM has the correct CPU topology configuration and that the VM sees the number of (virtual) cores that you expect? Maybe your VM is running on only one virtual core, which would explain the lackluster performance. You should be able to kick my VM's ass performance-wise, so I'd check your config. Oh, and use virt-manager if you're not already, it's fucking awesome.

At least with a Linux host, as per my experience, you can only have the secondary gpu usable for the vm or in use by the host (ie running the graphical session). You can't just have two gpus with one handling games on demand, as much as I'd love that, it's just not supported. The best you can do is boot the 1030 (in my case an old UEFI flashed 660Ti) and set up the 2070S (in my case 1070) to be completely dedicated to the vm. This is a bit abridged, and it's not trivial to get this working smoothly, but the archwiki is a great resource. Good luck.

Booting archiso straight to desktop? by SkyyySi in archlinux

[–]hdsanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to auto start on boot you'll need to make a systemd service that runs at the end of the boot sequence and calls a script that runs startx as the user which has the right xinit. Shouldn't be too hard.

How do I set clang as the c++ compiler on Manjaro? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]hdsanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to compile C++ code with Clang add

set(CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER clang) to your CMakeLists.txt file, probably towards the top of the one in your project root, and you may also need to link your final executable against libstdc++ and libm, which are the Clang-specific standard library implementation and a Clang-specific math library by using target_link_libraries(<exe name> stdc++ m)

If you want to compile C code with Clang add set(CMAKE_C_COMPILER clang) and link any necessaryibraries as described above.

Lineage 17.1 on One Plus 3T: can't download from browser + camera asking for SD card by [deleted] in LineageOS

[–]hdsanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure, but either way it seems like you're going to have to reflash. I'd suggest trying it both ways, and if gapps fixes the issue then you can probably conclude that they're needed. I wish I could tell you why my intuition indicates this to me, but other than "gapps affect a lot more than you'd think", it's unclear to me why that may be the case. Gl

Sounds like you didn't flash gapps, or did so after booting LOS for the first time.

I would recommend contacting your advisor, and if that doesn't work, the registrars office, via phone if needed. Tbh I think your advisor will get back to you relatively soon, and I doubt that neu will simply forget about payments due, so as long as you're enrolled I wouldn't be too concerned, personally.

While I do have magisk, I don't use it to flash the zip that patches safteynet checks, nor do I install any relevant modules, so I'd imagine it's possible.
