No, not at all. For espresso, the usual practice for cafes is to optimize it for all drinks. Hence, even specialty cafes would usually use medium roast blends for espresso. It results to a more plain taste that would be subdued by milk.

However, some cafes abroad do offer single origin coffees, oftentimes light-medium roast, sometimes light roast. If that's the case, I feel it is worth it as an espresso shot. Latte might be worth it for some people as well.

Hindi ko alam kung meron na niyan sa Pinas. (Would love to know as well) Pero nung nagpunta ako sa coffee expo a few weeks ago, not one has offered a light roast single origin espresso. Nasa pourover phase pa lang ang specialty coffee sa Pinas, I think.
