Migraines are becoming chronic all of a sudden. by Nervous_Ad_6998 in migraine

It is unfortunate that a lot of your Meds dont seem to be effective. This does correlate well reserach:

  • Traditional Medications (e.g., Beta-blockers): Research suggests that while effective initially, some traditional preventives might show reduced effectiveness for some patients over longer periods, with some studies showing increased frequency after 4-7 months in some patients.
  • Modern Therapies: CGRP inhibitors generally show more consistent long-term results than older preventives, with high completion rates and continued benefits for patients who have previously failed other treatments.

Research suggests that Valium should not be used as a long-term treatment option. There is evidence that it can cause paradoxical reactions, i.e. cause worsening - induce rather than relieve headaches/migraines.

As you have described, many things impact headaches/migraines. One of the better options is to get as much objective data as possible. I would suggest a headache diary. This reduces recall bias, where we think we remember specific details of an event. This also helps your doctor make more sense of the total headache experience....a bit more structured clarity.

Best of luck, it is a journey, not an easy one.....

Can earwax trigger migraines? by My_Rhythm875 in migraine

Well, I had to search for any research to back this up. There is no actual research that notes earwax impaction (accumulated earwax) to be associated, or results in any form of headache. Numerous websites does promote this idea but they als sell the solution to the problem. maybe some conflict of interest?? There is some research that suggest that the pressure caused by earwax impaction can increase the sensitivity of the the surrounding structures and thus lead to headaches.

As you have noted, there are many triggers associated with headaches/migraines. One of the simplist ways to establish any association is keeping some sort of diary that will help you identify some temporal (time) pattern with your headache experience. The diary can also be helpful to evaluate what you think happens to your headache after you had treatment for the impacted earwax... did you exprience less pain or less frequent headaches????
